hi guys, everything has been fine until i went out today and have two problems, one is that washer pump for my front intercooler spray has failed and allows water to poor out the front of the car. Not a problem think a new one is only 15 quid. but i now have a big problem. My coolant was empty and a wet patch below the car. I brought some new coolant and filled her up. when the car runs the coolant level go's up and down a lot. but is genrally fine whilst driving or whilst i rev the engine. however when i stop the resevior fills up and pushes it straight out the overflow. it stops and the tank shows full, but then over a period of 15 mins the resevoir drains again back into the system. I have heard from people it could be temperature stats, radiator caps and of course the head. please help me!!! anyone know any good specialists in devon????? thanks guys, my life is in your hands.

Quick way to get an indication of head is look for white cream at the oil filler cap.

But tbh that sounds like a lack of pressure in the system to me...

Not on an evo im afraid. Not an area ive ever really paid much attention to.
Is your oil filler clear of 'cream'?

yeh crystal clear under the cap, im not a very good person when it comes to cars!! i take it the system should be pressurised?? when i squeeze the hose next to the rad cap i can here air pushing in and out of the rad cap, and the seal has slightly perished on it. could this be a cause?? can air get stuck into the system, do i need to bleed it fully to flush any air out??? the coolant is comin out clean too from the bleed at the bottom of the rad. thanks so much for your help nick.

Hi, It can take a while for any emulsification to show on your oil cap a pressure test is only way to determine if the head has gone. As for the water, this can be caused by air in the system, try draining the whole thing then refill it with engine turned off, when you turn the engine over again some water will go out the bottle but just top it up and see how you go from there.

Hi Lucas,
Sorry I did not reply earlier, Have you changed the rad cap lately???
You say that one of the hoses has a perished seal??? what do you mean by this??? is the hose corroded due to high temperature and flaking at the joint???

I need some more information but for now what I suggest is that you try to remove the under guard and then start the car and give it some revs, hold it at about 2700rpm for half a minute with the heating on full blast and then get out of the car and inspect where the water is leaking from.

This is commonly the case when you change the rad cap to a RalliArt or other after market brand. It leads to water pump failure for some reason!!! I think your water pump has a leak.

The other culprit is usually a tiny weep on one of the hoses so check all of them thoroughly including the ones that run to the heater matrix.

What is the mileage of the car???

Please get back to me right away with your findings and we can take it from there.
