The visuals convey the message clearly though (luckily.)
I've seen some horrendous disintegrations of various cheapos/copies.
Forum threads are very often deleted regarding such wheel failures, though.
I suppose that's the drawback of many forums that are sponsored by businesses that sell certain products, they (understandably) don't want to see bad publicity impacting their sales.
Luckily, most catastrophic failures (that are caught on video) seem to be from cars rallying and hitting rocks at 80mph or more. However, there was a film of a Scooby doing donuts on a water-soaked car-park when it's alloy shattered, with only the wheel's hub still attached to the car. The spokes and rim were gone!
Most cars tend to only be used on the road and, as such, never really get stressed enough to produce failures, at least not many we get to hear about.
I have read numerous posts by trackday regulars, time-attack drivers, et.al. explaining their sense of horror after closely studying photographs and videos of their cars as wheels are clearly distorting on hard cornering.
You only get what you pay for, I suppose. Just check something with the seller next time you splash out for new wheels, ask if they are approved for UK road use. Many are sold as off-road/track wheels only, be aware !
