1- Remove battery terminals

2- Drain and remove radiator

3- Remove air intake at turbo so comes out as one unit

4- Remove upper and lower intercooler pipes leave intercooler in place

5- Now remove the vac pipes you only need to disconect the ones that link the engine to the car eg inlet to solinoid on the bulk head etc

6- Now starting from the top start remove all wiring conectors (have some masking tape handy so you can write on it and stick it to each conector you remove to say where it goes) i say start at the top as when you work your way down you can move the higher wires out the way making it easier to get to the lower ones also allot of the clips have a seperate bar that holds them on so when you remove them dont put them back on the conectors as they will fall off and you will loose them so put them in a safe place!!!! (there in my ashtray)

7-With all the wiring disconected i rested the loom over the n/s wing out the way

8- Now the wiring is out the way you can see the top of the gear box so you can remove the gear linkage cables put the 2 small clips and c clips in your ashtray for safe keeping then put the cables as close to the bulkhead out the way

9- Dont forget the brake vac pipe at rear of inlet

10- Now check all earths are disconected

11-At this point visual check all over the top of the engine for any wires vac pipes etc that have been missed

12- Send ramp up

13- First off drain your transfer box oil, gearbox oil and engine oil

14-Remove the prop shaft like this, first half way down the exhaust there is a removable mounting remove this as it will be in the way of the prop, next you need to remove the 2 centre prop bearings undo the 4 nuts and it will drop down becareful because now the prop end will slide out of the transfer box, take it out and resecure it the the bottom of the car out of the way i used cable ties.

15- Remove the front pipe

16- Remove the front wheels and disconect the lower ball joints remove the hub nuts and then remove the drive shafts both sides

17- Remove the o/s inner wheel arch lower cover to expose the lower crank pully and fanbelt and then remove the fan belt

18- Lower ramp and remove the pas pump complete dont disconect any pipes or wires cause you dont need too and secure on the o/s inner wing

19- Now remove the radiator catch tank just pull up and it comes off the top engine mount

20- Have another visual check over for anything left on at this point there shouldnt be except the engine mounts upper and lower

21- Send ramp up and undo 2 front and 2 rear bolts that hold on the lower gearbox subframe (you dont need to remove this totally)

22- Next we selected a pallet and a tyre to lower the engine onto to support it for final stage of removal

23- With the ramp lowered and the engine resting on the above remove all the o/s engine nuts from the studs and the same on the gearbox side

24- One last visual check

25- Send ramp up slowly we found as it cleared the mounts we had to slightly rock the engine forward to clear the alternator pully as soon as cleared we raised the car out of the way and thats the engine out!!!!!

Over two sessions in took around 5 hours

Hope this is a little insight for people wanting to do it themselves i wanted to try and remove it as one lump as it is easier to transfer everything over to my new engine side by side rather than take bits off here and there while its still in the car.

As you will see in my album i removed the gearbox and transfer box when the lump was on the floor.

Gearbox has gone away for overhall while its out so will update post when it returns and replacement engine going in

PS hope this all makes sense lol as i have done my back and im smacked up on diazipam and co codamol lol needs to get better asap so i can get the car rebuilt :whistling:

I have a few points to add.

With regards to the prop you dont need to disconnect it as when you raise the car it slides out on its own..

Also worth noting, with this method of lowering onto a pallet/tyre it makes it hard to undo bolts underneath so worth removing the flywheel cover, starter motor, 3 bolts from the bottom of the transferbox.

The biggest point i have is to release the clutch release bearing when its in the air or you will have a nightmare on the floor :)
