HOW TO: Throttle shaft seal

Just going to do a quick guide on how to change these, Ill be editing on the way so bare with me Im not going to show you how to take the throttle body off, as if you need showing that then you shouldn't be changing the seals

1. Remove any coolant pipes

Going to start on the TPS side

2. Mark the TPS so on reassemble you wont need to do a full setup of the TPS

3. Remove the TPS

4. Remove the TPS mechanism

 

[Simon@NTS]

5. Remove the metal retaining washer

 

[Simon@NTS]

6. Remove the nylon spacer

 

[Simon@NTS]

7. Now the throttle linkage side, remove the 12mm nut and wobble the cam linkage off

8. With the cam linkage removed count how many times the springs unwind, think its about 2.5 times and remove the white plastic cup

9. Remove the outer spring noting where the spring hook fixes to on the throttle body

10. Remove the inner spring, noting where the spring hook fixes to on the throttle body

11. Now removal of the butterfly can be tricky as the screws are thread locked in, so make sure you have the correct and good quality screw driver, apply a bit of heat to help remove the screws

12. The butterfly should slide out and you should be able to slide the shaft out

13. Now you can see how easy it is to damage them, you can straighten to faces by using a drift and a hammer

14. After straightening the faces

15. Remove the old shaft seals, using a strong pick, making sure not to damage the shaft bearings

16. Im changing the ICV at the same time, which you don't need to remove this if you are not changing it

17. Now its highly unlikely these bolts will come out in one piece I had to drill three of the heads off but to increase your chances put the throttle body in a vice and hit each bolt with a hammer and a drift, this will shape the faces and shock the bolt

18 Now you have a stripped TB, clean it in a parts washer, ie kitchen sink, dishwasher etc with brake cheaner
