Have read a fair bit on the differences, interesting. From Brembo's to larger/wider tires, engine differences to the 5 being modified again for this crank walk.

Is it worth waiting another 2 years to get into one... Maybe get the four now and drive it for two years then trade on a 5 ........

ECU tuning is new to me, so i apologise for lack of education with it. What would one need to retune the ecu to our fuel as recommended. Or is that what you are getting at Rob is I need a flashable ecu from a later gen. car.

as always thanks, this is turning out to be a wicked day of learning/info and priceless forum to join. You guys are a huge help with a newbie.

As rob said to suit your fuel you would need a remapable ecu from a 5 or later. They plug straight in to the 4 so is an easy swap when youve found one. I would also say you would not want as much as 1.5 bar boost with the lower quality fuel.

Agree aps, I took the dealer one out. they had it maybe 3 days and not much time to do anything to it so i got to see it untouched which was nice. very fun to drive and the only bad was me not being used to right hand drive. It was very fun.

The tires were bald which really worries me [they are replacing with new ones], no rust really at all, just slight spots around certain edges i can get touched up easily. Here is a link to the one i'm considering 1996 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution - GSR - Inventory - Right Drive

I will try to do some research on the ecu's then. i've read a bit on sending it to licensed people to actually remap it and cost running 500-600. Could a person tune it just for our 91 octane and they have a map for that? Not sure who would do that in Canada with the car being non existant here. Again newbie, go easy :D

At the end of the day, i like a car to be well within it's capabilities so I wont push it much, however i do want to learn a bit more during the ownership of this car so I will be doing some stuff to it.

It's easy to see there's no recession in Canada ;)

But that would be crazy money to pay as youngy said better import 1 yourself!

I bought an evo 4 for €3300 a year and a half ago.

Not happy with the price, trying to find ways to get it for less.

Not a fan of the post 6's other than the X which is out of my range for the moment.

I'm not sure how much is involved with importing to be honest. Maybe I should be taking a look into that. As some have said I'll just buy one of yours :D and yes the recession is still strong in Canada lol.

The evo 5,6,7,8,9 i think are still illegal in the country. there were lancers that were north american suited but gutless and look like crap imho. So i'm limited a bit with what i can get. I believe the 4-6 is just plain illegal in the states so that option may be out. More and more reading for tommorow i guess.

I know of several 4's in the states as I've shipped parts to them. Can't see how they would be illegal??
Look into it more and you may be able to import from japan direct

Rob - do you think the cars you were shipping to were track cars? I can't find anything at all in the states for the 4's. Many discussions of the 7 being the first legal one and the US having a 25 year period vs. our 15 year old period in Canada.

Will keep looking

Yep, has to be 15 years to the month even, like the evo 4 wasnt allowed in until Just now in August as that was the origional manufactured month.

It has to be older than 15 years then not younger??

Can you also confirm that your pump fuel is rated via RON or AKI? As this will affect your map and what we actually explain to you :)

Sorry if i said younger somewhere, oops. Yes it must have been produced later than 15yrs.

We are AKI

With this in mind my understanding is 98 octane in japan will be RON - converted to AKI will be about 92 here with AKI system?
