High electric bill

I work for UK Power Networks who probably own your meter mate. It seems pretty obvious by what you are saying that something is terribly wrong. The first assumption is that the meter is broken, but that is very uncommon from what I know. The most likely problem is that your supply is being stolen from a neighbour. The first thing you need to do is switch absolutely everything off in your house and see if anything is being used at all. If a tiny bit is being used, it is likely that you have forgotten to turn something off, but if a substantial amount is being used, it would confirm the most likely reason.

Believe me we have considered this. We are really just stumped, it has to be over reading, I don't know any household that will pay to the sum of £7400 for electric in a year, that is the amount that's been paid to date and what they want now on top

It probably is that someone is stealing it. The reason they steal it is that they are 99 times out of 100 growing weed. When they need so many lights on, it requires a huge amount of electricity which sets off alarms when someones bill suddenly goes through the roof. That is how the police catch them, so they have no alternative but to steal the power.
You really need to turn everything off like I said and see how much is being used and then let me know what is going on

Ill keep you posted, my dad is doing a test this weekend by turning everything off. Our house is detached so can someone still steal electric? And our meter is inside the house

Do you have a garage or shed with supply going out there?

No not yet. Even with being really stringent we have used 65kwh in the last 24hours and an average family uses 35 aparantly

Even more worrying is if you are consuming electric through old bad wiring. If the insulation has broken down on the cable or you have insulation breakdown on the electrical outlets etc you can use electric with nothing on.

Not sure on how old the wiring is. The house is a old pub but not been a pub for 40 years but it's a fair size. And it sat empty for 18 months with all widows closed and the house was really damp for a while after moving in, been here just over 18 months now. So turning everything off will eliminate the insulation being faulty won't it?

Turning off at the main switch on the consumer unit will.
