Hi all,

I had a look around the forum and saw that it was fairly new, yet it seemed like a nice enough place to post around.

I'll be honest and say that I don't own an Evo and am not planning to in the near future (although I wish I could afford one!),however I do have a project Corolla which may involve and Evo engine, and I have a feeling you will be the right people to talk to...

What's wrong with the revision 3 blocks from the MR2 GT-S??? They can easily achieve 300BHP with minimal effort and are relatively bullet proof.

Also, if you remove the TVSV valve, you have unlimited boost which will see you to at least 370BHP with the right fuelling and other mods.

Thanks, I don't know much about other motors, I have only done my H/W on 4A-GE's and I know some power figures from 3S-GTE's but they are hard to get old of and not so reliable when bigger Turbos are strapped to them.

I will look into them, but there is something about Evo engines that really gets me excited (not in that way )

The Evo engine might get you excited but I doubt the bills that will be involved in this build would excite any one!!!

How much power are you thinking of running in this Corolla???

You will need to spend almost a grand on bracing and chassis flex will be the biggest issue to resolve. You will be forever cracking windscreens when you fly round bends or shimmy from left to right too fast. This was one of the biggest factors as to why the Toyota team pulled the Corolla from the WRC.

Who has been advising you that the revision 3 and above engines do not take nicely to bigger turbo's???

What do you have in mind in regards to the differences in running gear and the difference in sizes between both the donor and transplant vehicles???

I have yet to see an MR2 GT-S that has had a bigger turbo and not taken to it. I would not personally go bigger on the twin entry unless it was a Hybrid as the twin entry is good enough if you know how to push it to it's limit safely. With the correct induction, you can get a hell of a lot out of one.

I have a great contact in the Toyota field and anything that involves turbo's. if he does not know about it then it is not worth knowing buddy.

They call him GT Chris, he is based in Northumberland, google him and he will happy to help/advise.

A friend of mines has an engine available for around £500 with uprated cams, adjustable pulleys etc. That is over a grand cheaper then an Evo engine where you would be just getting a bare block and nothing else.

Thanks ElDopesta, those are things that I have never heard of (the flex breaking the windscreen) although I am aware of the costs involved with grafting engines and creating new engine mounts. I have a good few friends who have done builds such as this, there is someone on TOC who has a 480BHP 3S-GTE GTi although it isn't all that reliable. He has gone through two maybe three engines, and I know for a fact that is not due to him not doing things right. He is very experienced and that is just what happens with it, but then again he does drag racing whereas I would like mine to become a street machine.

With regards to engine cost, that is not a problem just yet, because this is something that I want to do in a few years after I have been driving it, not right away.

It's a different Corolla that has had problems in the WRC, because as far as I know, the AE92 was never part of it. The WRC Corolla was always the AE111 which was totally different so maybe things will be ok for me.... I don't want to seem that I am batting away your ideas and suggestions, but seeing as someone has already got looootsss of power from his Corolla I reckon it may be ok.

What doesn't help my argument however is that he has a 3S-GTE :lol: I liked the thought of the Evo engines because of the fact they have very similar engine mount and ancillary positions to the 4A-GE.

Hi buddy,
do you have the AE92 Sedan or Hatch Back twinny GTi???

They have all the chassis flex problems (Hatch Back) that I am talking about which only come to light once big horse power is unleashed. I remember this quite well as I have had more then a fair few whilst I was living in Japan back in the days. Over there, they really love to PUSH their rides real hard, even the nuttiest of drivers here pale in comparison to the teenagers over there!!!

The handling on the AE92 leaves a lot to be desired in both of them too.

Still, nothing is impossible to cure.

List the full spec of what you have done to the engine and the body with as many pictures as possible in the non evo gallery and I will have a look at your pride and joy.

They are good cars none the less and I have a soft spot for them as does my Dad, he loves them to bits in fact! He has 2 of them and is always on at me to find a third and fully restore it for him.

I look forward to seeing what you have done further.

I have a few decent chassis mods but I am getting a suspension kit for now. When I get to the project I'll be swapping to coilovers and I reckon I can start solving flex issues now.

I'll see what pictures I can post, I have recently got a knackered HDD so all my stuff is gone!
