Hi guys! Evo 7 Questions

Hello team!


I'm in the market for an Evo 7 and just wanted to clarify a few things and get some info.

Firstly, what kinda things should I be looking out for when purchasing apart from general car things? What evo specific things do I need to be aware of?

Secondly, what would be the max power I'd be able to get out of one before forging the engine or putting unnecessary strain on stock components? I've heard it's ~350bhp?

Thirdly, I know they have to be maintained a lot which is not a problem. What are the service intervals like? Can I just make sure I change all the fluids with high quality stuff when they're due or before and then she should be ok?

Consumables obviously replaced as and when, brakes, clutch etc.

Finally, what does the ACD do? Does the Tarmac, Gravel, Snow thingy change power/torque distribution. I'm guessing it doesn't just heard it makes the ACD lock either more or less quickly with steering inputs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys!

3. ACD distributes the power to the most grip in those condition, so pretty much it makes it perform better in those conditions

Awesome. What kinda mods would I need to get ~350bhp? Exhaust, intake and remap I'm guessing?

Is there anyway to make the car more oversteery with the ACD?

If you put some stiffer anti roll bars at the back would that help?

who me, oh yea :razz:

ok here goes, after you have checked the normal stuff like damage repair, oil water is where it should be and not where it shouldnt, everything works ie lights, wipers, windows, locks, aircon (if fitted) also check that lights on the dash come on and go out when started ie make sure the 3 ayc lights come on the 2 ov them go out once started and that they stay with one light on while driving, all 3 lights staying on is not good as this means there is a fault.

then underneath usual checks for bushes and ball joints although only trouble i had in 2 years 18,000 miles was warn front anti roll bar bushes (excesive movement in the bar) and a wobbly track rod end.

check discs and pads for wear cos these can be expencive to replace, also brake hard at speed a few times to check the brakes arnt warped cos this can be common

under car check for rust, cars that been in the country a while can rust quite badly, a good underseal at time of inport is the key, if you find a car that has been re-done then have a good poke about to check they are not trying to hide something. my car looked like this after 6 years in uk and although it had been sealed the boot floor and inner arch areas wernt done very well so i had to act on it before winter. was just looking rusty not rotten or scabby so wire brushed it all then treated all then new underseal. also check the rear arches, the lip, face and inside the rear door shuts. also check the fuel filler kneck isnt rotten. not all cars are affected but some are so just something to look for, here is what mine looked like before and after treatment

Oh wow! That looks fantastic!

How much would I be looking at for a fairly stock example of one then? The blue one you guys pointed to is about £8000 which is a little more than I'm wanting to pay. I've seen some for £6500 etc.

How reliable are the Evo 7s if cared for properly? I don't think I'll be buying an import due to the obvious problems that arise with insurance companies.

What kinda price range do they start out at for a decentish example of one?

:wtf: the whole import thing with insurance aint so much of an issue these days, im on my second import 35 with 6 points for speeding and pay £630 fully comp with aplan insurance. there thatcham office deals with the imports and they know there cars

as for price, i paid 8k for mine 2 years ago in standard form apart from exhaust and lowering springs, 54k on the clock and tons of history and youll prob pay around the same for one know. beware of cars which are too cheap. £6.5k is a bit to cheap cos thats the sort of money youll get a nice 6 for. have a look at a few mate, even if you cant afford it cos it will give you a better idea of the what standard of car you can get for your money.
obviously youll pay a little more for a very nice well cared for example and there is also alot of sheds out there,

cheap car may also indicate it needs alot spending on servicing so be sure you dont buy one that needs all its oils and belts doing cos this will cost quite a bit to do the lot.

honestly mate if its priced cheap ......it probably is for a reason, doubt you would get a good quality 7 for less than £8K
could get a good 6 for that though, with 350bhp

Hmmm well belts and fluids isn't a huge problem 'cos I can get them done at work free of charge!

What is different about the 6 from the 7? I just don't really like the look of a 6 tbh

smaller lighter more as they say raw, to me it just sounds like they forgot to fit the sound deadening, oh wait they did :razz:

The difference is 6 is the DADDY

I'm messin. The 7 is newer first of all and has a few extra's over the 6 (main one being the acd) and also the only engine to say evolution on it.

If you joined about a month earlier I could have got you a nice 2002 fq300 evo 7 with 50k (ish) FMSH for around 7.5k
