I'm after soon advice and help

Had a new clutch fitted.. Seemed all fine driving home mad over the next couple of days then it suddenly got stiff to between 3rd & 4th gear.. Would still go into gear and run fine.. On further investigation noticed the gear box was leaking oil.. So was towed back to the garage... Gearbox leak fixed... But still the gearbox is tight in 3rd and 4th..

They have check the car over and Clutch is fine and gearbox fine no noise at all.. Seems linked to linkage.. This was check but nothing stood out. So they are talking about stripping the gearbox to see what could be the problem.

The car runs fine just is tight into 3rd and 4th..

All advice welcome.. Gear change is better at high revs.. So basically 6k revs +

Help!!!!!

do you know what oil they used in the box? if too thick, coupled with cold temps at th min it will make locating gears harder

any grinding or notchyness? you say linkage has been checked, all brackets fully tightened and located correctly? it seems maybe the only way forward is the box out and apart

nope no grinding or notchyness..

my question is why would it be fine then suddenly get stiff and tight.. surely it would be like this on refit? unless the oil leak has damaged something!

well just an update..

the gearbox is going to replaced in the next couple of weeks as i have found a good replacement..

This is due to the unable to select 1st some times and can still a little tight into 3rd and 4th and still it doesn't feel right when in neutral.

i'll let you know how i get on once the gearbox is swapped out.

I would look at the Gear Selector Cables and the Selector itself once more, but in depth this time, as it will be a shame to just replace the Box unnecessarily.

Once checked, the mechanic(s) should re-secure the cables whilst the Selector is smack bang in the middle and nip it there, whilst someone is in the car constantly checking to see if all gears are being selected correctly. If they are not, the mechanic will need to be readjusting from down below until the person in the car states that it is the best it can be.

Once done, it should be taken for a brisk road test.

I beleive it is the box as it was fine up until the oil leak...

Linkage has been check before...

Tbh if the is not the gearbox i will be able to re-sell it easier enough..

Just conclude on this.. New gearbox fitted and problem solved. New Gearbox is smooth and back to normal.

no other parts where replaced.

Unsure what happened to the gearbox without having it stripped.
