HELP Timing Belt Snapped

Ok i was without my evo6 for 3 weeks waiting to get a clutch in i got a standard organic clutch i got my car back last thursday night and and it felt like a different car it was great compared to the worn out paddle clutch that was in it. anyway i took it for a test drive and 20 minutes in the timing belt snapped. i know i should have had it changed when it was serviced last but when i bought it the guy said it`d just been done. Anyway long story short i`ve got to get it done cheap as chips cos i`ve just started a new job and have to do a month in hand. So if any1 could tell me what the likely damage is what parts i need and where to get them as cheap as possible cos an engine change is not an option. And if it wasn`t wear that caused the belt to snap what are other possible causes? i`d appreciate ANY HELP guys,

You got proof the belt was changed or not, if you have then I would be getting in touch with the people who done the job and/or the maker of the belt

Ah bugger. Best bet would be to get it inspected first to see what's damaged then go from there. You might be lucky to get away with not bending any valves but it's worth a look with a camera.

I'd get in contact with some traders like indigo-gt, evotune and Evo breakers

the timing belt snaped on the on my 5 before i bought it and it took out every thing imaginable. cant see it being a cheap fix sorry man unless you are very lucky

Ye mate he opened her the other day every thing is knackered including the pistons so its a full engine i was hoping i could get away with the head but thats out the window. There`s a guy in Co. Galway that breaks them i got some parts off him before he has an engine over there,looking €1000 but he`ll gimme €200 credit for my old one also i have a spare p/s pump and rear wheel bearing so i might get another tonne of with some haggling. so i`m hoping only to have to spend about €700 plus the mechanic for swapping the engines plus depending whats on the new engine i might have some spares to sell. only get a 6 month warrenty on the engine but it`s the only option at the moment.

Pistons as well? I would usually expect broken/bent valves and damaged guides but not usually heavy piston damage...though of course i could be wrong.

What is the engine code/number of the block he will be supplying you with???

even if the cylinders are damaged why not rebore the block, and put 86mm forged pistons and rods in, if the valves are bent get a 1 mm oversize valve upgrade kit

He's probably thinking that he is better of with a stock engine then going for a build which may well be way out of his budget right now.

If the block for sale is from a VI then it is well worth going down that route for €700 (on an exchange) + the engine in and out cost.
