help please no lights

hi there was driving home tonight from work when i noticed my dash lights were not on thought i was one of they stupid people driving with no lights on lol

well i wasnt front lights work all indicators and brake lights just no side lights or plate lighs and dash

checked all fuses and found one under the bonnet blown when i replace it and turn lights on it blows again

its a 96 evo 4 if any 1 can help would be gr8 cheers

have you sorted this problem now? iv just had a new stereo fitted and have the same problem

is it just instrament panel or all the lights for the switches n allsorts too. when i bought my car none of my dials lit up so i changed the bulbs and spot on since

it was all workin before had the stereo fitted. and now i have no dash lights side lights or tail lights. checked the fuse under the hood and it was blown so replaced it and blew straight away. my guess is that iv got a wire shorting out somewhere behind the stereo. but any advice is welcome

have you got a fuse box inside the car too i know i have two and my old type r had 3 one of which i couldnt find one time when my central locking stopped working. it shouldnt be any more major than a fuse as long as the right fuses are in each port as the fuse blows before anything else

id say you have a short somewhere.... most probably the loom on the stereo.
do you have a multimeter?

I would unplug the stereo plug from the loom and see if it does it then as it could possibly have the wire that goes to the stereo to tell it to dim when lights are put on going down to earth

i had it on my old one.... the orange wire...

It has got the wire here is a wiring diagram for it you can see it on the left

thanx for the help. took the stereo out and poked around with the multimeter and found that my hands free kit that had been wired into the stereo was earthed out wrong and was sending power through the metal case of the stereo and shorting out. once again thanx all for the help
