Hi all, this is my first post as I have recently converted from scooby to Evo! My Evo 5 has a clunking/knocking noise occurring happening especially apparent going round right hand corners! I have changed anything that bad even the tiniest bit of play in it and also changed the strut and top mount (nearside) I have no idea what this noise could be!! It sounds like something is loose but I have been over itAgain and again and had 2 different garages look at it!! Has anybody had any problems like this? Oh iment tosaythe car still drives like a dream just with this added noise!! Thanks for looking and hope somebody can help me !! Thanks :)

Hi and welcome to the Forum!!!

I take it you have checked the CV joint/Drive Shaft???

The Anti Roll Bar Drop Links are also known to cause this issue too but predominantly when going over bumps and humps.

Go to an empty car park, fully lock the steering to the right and then move off at a pace to complete a full circle.

If the knocking increases with the speed of the vehicle then it is your CV joint/Drive Shaft that needs replacing.

Post up a Newbie Thread and add pics of your Evo as soon as you can please!!!

Keep us posted on how you get on with the checks that I have advised buddy.

Hi, thanks for your reply, i have changed the anti-roll bar bushes, the strut and the top mount. One of the blokes who looked at it for me pulled back the cv boots and had a look but said he couldn't see a lot like that and to come back again when i don't need the car for a bit and we could have a more in depth look. It has certainly left me and him blooody frustrated!! If it turns out to be the drive shaft it's a different noise than the usual drive shaft noise i'm used to hearing! But i don't know what they sound like on these. I'm driving on at the min to see if i can get something to show it's head!! I see you provide parts etc so i will probably be in touch. Also do you have any tips about getting them re-mapped? I was thinking about letting alan jefferies (a garage down here with rolling road etc) to do it, os there anything i should do to the car or anything to specify to make it a safe re-map? Looking to boos to between 330-350. Thanks for your time mate and sorry it's a bit of an essay!!

Is the noise a really loud rotational noise that only happens on right hand lock and is louder the more steering lock you put on ?

I don't think we will be getting any more info than he has provided already Jamie..........Not for the moment anyway! ;)

The noise does increase the more lock you put on and also it's louder the faster you're going! It's like random clunking/knocking on the tighter right hand bends but you can hear it slightly on the lighter right hand bends and you get nothing at all on left hand bends. Thanks for your reply :)

It is your CV Joint/Drive Shaft that is the cause of the problem by the sounds of it buddy.

I have just re-read your previous posts and am surprised that the Mechanics at the Garages you took the Evo to did not pick up on it.

Let us know how you get on buddy.
