Hello - New to Evos & looking for advice

Hi. My name is Dave - I've just joined the forum as I'm thinking of buying an Evo and wondered if anyone could offer any advice?

From what I've read I'm better of staying with a UK Car (servicing, HPI / mileage verification / ins etc.) so that means a VI onwards. Reliability is a big factor so preferably a standard unmodified would be best for me - I'm not looking to do track days or spend lots of money adding new mods etc. The various reviews I've looked through suggest the best Evos are VIII & IX but is there any reason why a X should be avoided?

I'm thinking FQ VIII, IX or X running 300 - 330BHP.

Could anyone give me a few pointers please - most grateful.

welcome dave down to you which you choose they are all great cars obviously the x is the most modern up to date
some say slighty softer than earlier evos .Alot like the ix myself included ! but im not into the more modern evos
prefer the crap interior but raw looks and ride of the vi

Thanks liffy16. Any thoughts on reliability? Is the IX a stronger engine than the X. When you say 'modern evos' do you just mean the X. I've heard they are not such a harsh ride but not as in touch with the road as the IX. They are already down to 13,000 - 14,000 for a 40K example whilst the IX seem to fetching relatively higher prices. Any thoughts on imports? Would you stay away from them?

I'm reading the MLR Evo's Buyers Guide pdf which is helpful but any first hand advice would be much appreciated.

Does anyone have any comments to add?

iv got the VIII....and love it! i use it as my daily driver aswell. personally i like the 8's and 9's (idealy 8 with 9 rear bumper ) the 10's are a bit heavier and a bit more of a family type car altho still quick, they also seem more computerised. again its all down to what you are after. mines running about 320bhp with heavy duty clutch and is fine as a daily driver. as for reliability the engines are pretty good on all later evos...the transmission is the weaker point, try find a nice 8/9 300bhp with service history and as long as you dont drive like the stig it'll last for ages. dont forget these cars need servicing every 4000miles so high maintenance but well worth it ope this helps

Thanks Andy - that's really helpful. It's much along the lines I was thinking - UK car, 300BHP 8/9. I'm only doing 6-7K per year at the moment so it's a perfect time to 'scratch that itch' as they say.
