Getting rid of stereo

I'm considering getting rid of my stereo from my dashboard. I considered re locating it but have thought of another way of doing this just wanted to find out if its possible.

Now obviously a stereo has an amp in built which runs the speakers so if I was to remove the stereo and put an amp (small one) in the glove box, I can use audio leads to plug an mp3 player into the amp couldn't I, so the songs would come out the speakers.

This is all because I'm fed up with not havinga cubby hole for my bits n nova ie phone backy ect. So if I free up the stereo space move my 3gauges up to the top din I can put a pocket in that stuff slides into.

So is what I'm planning doable or is it a pipe dream

No reason why it wouldnt work. I personally would get a good 4 chanel amp, might be a bit big for the glove box so would mount it under passenger seat. Still wouldnt be visible and would mean you still get a good quality sound from all 4 speakers.

Wicked. Yh 4 channel was my thought as 2 channel would get overloaded and make the speakers distort. Under the seat was my thought and I just need to work out where I'm gonna mount the mp3 player and what one to get hmmmm

I just hate staring at a stereo lol and to be honest I hardly use it its only my girlfriend who like listening to music

I would say ipod because i think they are brilliant. But thats personal preferance. If you run the cable from under the seat in behind the dash you can leave the mp3 player in the glovebox when you get out and pull it out of the glovebox when you want it. That way everything is out of view ehen you leave the car.

Yes but i think they work with the dock. Dont know if they do a remote to directly control the ipod.

It will work. It will sound bollocks though. The great thing about stereo's is they equalise the input and process it correctly. Just get rid of your amps and just have a stereo for long journeys Its an evo, not a bloody corsa!

i'm sure you will be able to just get a simple ipod dock, and have RCA output into the amp?

there's got to some sort of interface as well for volume control maybe?

There is, on the iPod and the amp, but it won't be a processed signal, so will sound shit

It will defo work. I did it once when my stereo blew on an old car I had. I had to use the ign wire that goes to stereo to wire direct to remote part on amp so it didn't drain bat.

im not after awsome sound, just some background noise will do and to shut the mrs up.

i know a stereo will always win for pure quality.

i may just wire in my 2 channel to my front speakers and give it a test run, i know i have done summat simular in the past before everyone had mp3 stereos lol we plugged an ipod into my amp to play a tune through my system.

i have more use for a empty space below my gauges for my bits n bobs than a stereo.

could also relocate stereo to save the space that way just where to put it hmmmmm

simple answer, dont carry so much shite. if you have to then why hasnt your mrs got it in her hand bag lol and whats wrong with chucking all you shit in the massive hole you have under the arm rest
