Good to see the thread still going....

It's a good job no-one over here gets banned for going off-topic on threads ;) ;) ;)

Andy

As you can clearly tell Andy, most of the Members here have the memory span of the average Gold Fish LOL!!!

The thread is still being updated but the Original Post has been lost to the archives! ;)

So what are the BIG changes that you are planning on GeekMap???

I could tell you El, but that would ruin my superiority complex that I have and so I'm afraid you'll just have to wait and find out :p :p :p

The main things are to do with breaking the link between anyone with a laptop and a cable that does 'mapping' and the geekmapped website name.

That is the reason I asked for the removal of the website logo from Si's signature. It then gives a clean slate from which to start all over again from, however, as has been mentioned on this thread, my request seems to have been met with a slight over-reaction as to what I was asking for, in my eyes.

Well, like some one stated earlier buddy, when you mention legal action, no matter how subtle you try to be about it, some people tend to go off the rails.

It's just second nature for some individuals.

I still think that there was a nicer and more effective way of going about it but that all depends on what frame of mind you were in on the day this saga began.

The problem you have is that when you decided to go with the Name GeekMapped, you had a name that was too good and it just became synonymous.

Now every one with EvoScan and a cable falls into the catagory some how.

Personally, I blame you for it for chosing such a fantastic name! ;)

El,
I agree that the email could have been sent differently but I wasn't expecting the kind of reaction I got.

I put it in such a way that I thought it was a polite and friendly request. I then got a lovely email from Nick ;) and logged on here and saw that all sorts had kicked off.

I put the same request to Darin 'over the road' and no-one even mentioned it or said anything at all about it and I expected the same here but I got a thread put up and people starting to slag me off without knowing the facts but that's just life on the internet I guess ;)

I've recieved a few similar requests in the past to do with the GM website and have acted on them quietly etc. but as you say, I guess other people are different and respond differently. The joys of communicating via e-mail where you can't get across any sort of tone in your voice I guess.

Quite right Andy.

I suppose Darin would not have batted an eyelid as you are Staff at the end of the day and he probably knew that you had your reasons.

I would not be surprised to hear (from members who had the signatures removed over the road) that Darin had your request dealt with but failed to notify the members involved as to why it was done.

It would have been the right thing to do but unfortunately, changes are made and explanations are very few and extremely far between at the best of times.

If you had sent me that particular email, I would have just dealt with it and PM'd all Members involved.

I am of the opinion that Nick deleted the Signature(s) and then posted up the Thread at the same time simply because he never gets time to stay online and deal with anything regularly.

Try and understand his view point buddy, he probably had never heard of you first hand before this incident.

That way, he could ensure that Simon would not have thought that there was a glitch with his User Profile Settings and then just uploaded the signature again.

I have had this problem a couple of times in the past when I have removed posts etc. and the OP's just re-post them thinking there was some technical error somewhere.

I must say, you really are an OK chap to get on with when you try LOL!!!

Lets not go over this again.
You mentioned legal action. I took no chances and had to make sure I was covered.
How do I know you wouldnt see someone else with a similar sig and then send in the lawyers? I had to cover myself and the way to do that was by warning everyone not to do it. I cant help it if you didnt mean it to come across threatening. Best way to not come across threatening is to not threaten.
Anyway its all done.
Lets not keep going over the same ground, going off topic is fine, going over the same stuff over and over is boring.

Hi Andy, why do you want to break the link between anyone with a laptop and cable that does mapping with the geekm@pped name?

isn't that what geekm@pped is all about? a place for people to learn and gain cracking advice about car tuning?......surely a site such as this will obviously have people from very little knowledge to very good mappers.

....are you planning on turning geekm@pped into a commercial mapping buisiness as that would make sense as to why you dont want the name tarnished?

Regards.

Possibly going the route of ecutek!!! Being as they have a monopoly on it, bit of competition. Franchise it out to tuners selling the geekmap over ecutek????

I think you may have touched on something there Mark.

Perhaps someone has used the name and has done a half ass job that ended in tears which resulted in Andy having to put up with a heap of grief for no reason.

Just thinking out load here.

Personally, I would franchise out the rights to have GeekMapped backing and that would completely depend on the skills of the Member(s) applying for the role.

It would be licensed and the Members would be listed on the Home Page so only those that have subscribed can take work on.

That way, everyone is happy.

I am sure that with the mods you have in place Geof, I could come up with a similar vehicle and spec., mapped by Simon, and have a few more horses running very safe indeed! ;)

The ones who know what they are doing are top notch by all accounts.

And what would determine the winner?? BHP? torque? drivability? the list is endless and always down to someone's opinion..... :p

Think the bhp and torque would determain the winner as everyone chases the 400 mark
