But why if you can map yourself why put it to a "trader with warranty" That's like buying a meal for yourself because your hungry but giving it to someone else to eat:confused: You can tell I've given up fags talking about food again:whistling:

I haven't read the full thread... just the bits slagging me off for making loads of money :D :D :D

I've only ever had 2 engines let go on me whilst mapping (and I've mapped slightly more than 2) and both where fresh engine rebuilds. In both cases, I offered to have an independant inspection carried out on the engine at my cost and if any of the problems were found to be mapping related then I would have paid for a new engine. However, in both cases the engine builder admitted responsibilty and paid for a replacement.

Exactly my point with regards to mapping warranty. Because an engine goes bang whilst mapping does not necessarily mean it's the mappers fault, So as to a mapper offering a warranty is a joke. However if the engine was built by said mapper that would be a different matter:)

:whistling: read up !

Data logging is something a mapper should be looking at after each run, you can look into it further if the worse happens as Andy said.

Then if discovered mapper is at fault he sorts it !

Whatever, I still don't see how a mapper can offer a warranty on mapping. Every time you push an engine it has the potential to throw a rod or something:confused:

Also, there is nothing to stop anyone filling a car up with crap 95RON fuel when it's been mapped on V-power etc...

I would imagine you would struggle to find a trader who will offer a warranty on purely a map when they have had nothing else to do with the car/engine etc.

Quoted for the truth! A car could leave a tuner being 100% perfect, then the owner could fill up with poor quality fuel (either because they HAD to, or because the fuel has just gone off in general), then next time they thrash it, it dets it's head off and goes bang. When stripped down it will show lots of det marks, but how can one proove it's the tuners fault, and not the fault of a faulty injector, weak fuel pump, bad fuel, dodgy FPR, etc, etc.

Even during mapping, if for whatever reason, during mapping the engine were to loose oil pressure and go bang because there are no gauges to monitor it, then is that the mappers fault?! Of course not, but just because he was unlucky enough to be sitting with his laptop at the time he will get the finger pointed at him.

However, unless someone takes liability it would have to go to court, and in that situation the owner will find it VERY difficult to proove it was the tuners work and nothing else that killed their engine, unless of course the map is rediculously silly. However if the map looks good & safe overall, and was fine in the logs until it went pop then realistically the courts won't give the owner a penny.

It's a sad truth, but I know of 1 so-called "pro" who has had engines go pop on the dyno, then give back the keys saying "sorry mate" and having the cheek to still charge £300 for mapping + the £200 dyno time!! In some cases, some spectators have head the engine detting from the outside, while said tuner has "missed" it, even though they are the one with det-cans hooked up. Has anyone seen their money back of this person?? Have they f**k. It's not just 1 or 2 they have killed either! :disgusted:

Tbh an engine going bang during mapping and if it was mapping related you must be doing something seriously wrong

why do these threads always tend to get messy,

just because someone gets called a 'geek' or 'geekmapper' doesn't mean they have anything to do with '***************' and do not represent '***************' in any way.

...its just a nickname that has stuck.

if people adopted the name ecuflasher, home tuner or something a lot of hassle would be avoided.
