I guess i'll make one post on this thread.

Here is a copy of the email that I sent to Nick

Hi,
I have noticed from browsing your forum that user sbn1979 has the geekmapped website logo as his signature.
This image is now copyrighted and I am requesting that you please remove it from his signature without the need to go to the extent of involving lawyers etc.

Best regards,

Andy Fox

Now if this has been interpreted as me threatening legal action and asking for all links to be removed then that's down to Nick and nothing to do with me I'm afraid.

I won't quote Nicks reply email as obviously that is his choice but it does contain the line 'Andy, get a life'....

I have my reasons for asking for the removal of one image from the website and it's nothing at all to do with making all of these vast amounts of money that people seem to believe... but again, that's down to the individual persons choice.

It's also interesting to note that when I signed up here this morning, upon reading the guidelines and rules, one of those that stood out was the rule whereby your post may be edited or removed if it contains copyrighted material.... Seems that this rule may need deleting from the guidelines as that is all I was asking for.

Thanks for the explanation andy.

As I know you map for whatever the person wants to give, I also know as I have witnessed a geek mapper do 3 cars in a day @ £150 a pop, so not bad for a days work....so although personally YOU do not make a lot of money others do.......Out of interet and to clear up any confusions/rumours that may start why has this been done and is Geekmapped going to continue.....as id like to learn about the mapping on a more indepth level ;)

thanks for your explanation and ALL geekmappers are welcome on here....the more the merrier !!!

How does 'involving lawyers' not say that if the images arent removed you will go legal? Or am I supposed to think that if the images arent removed you would ask your lawyer round for afternoon tea? Thats all that line was about? Yeah :wtf:
If you didnt want to threaten legal dont mention it at all!

Huh? Your wish was carried out and the content removed. I posted here to warn other people to not repost anything which could upset you. At the end of the day you are asking for people to stop advertising for, you which is very odd but your choice, but I see that you are obviously wanting to keep images away from the public and I know that Geekmapped is popular here so I felt it quite probable that the images would reappear if I didnt want people to not post it again.

My email back:

Andy,
Get a life. You do not need to threaten lawyers.
There is no wonder geekmapped has such a reputation if you go around threatening people who use your logo to link to your site from a relevant site.
Dont worry, I will remove the image and stop anyone linking to your site.

Nick

And I stand by it.
You do need to get a life if you spend your sunday mornings going round threatening lawyers to get people to remove free targeted advertising.

And there is no wonder geekmapped (the website) has the reputation it does between site owners. Before now I just thought the geekmaped community had been victimized as it provided a cheaper solution to mapping and I chose to ignore what I had heard and was more than happy with the geek mappers on here, but if this is the kind of thing you do it does seem that what the rumor mill says has a base of truth. And its a shame. The mappers on here are great, have helped a lot of people and have contributed a lot of great knowledge.
And yes dont worry I removed everything within about 5 mins of replying.

Quite a terrible email that :wtf:

Johnny,
The reasons for it will become clearer over the next few weeks but it is being done for precisely the reasons you mention. People are making money from the geekmapped name and website and therefore steps are being taken in order to limit that from happening.

The geekmapped website was setup and is still run as a point of information in order to help people to map their own cars and learn about mapping. It was not set up in order for people to then start using an association with geekmapped to make money.

So to answer your question, yes, geekmapped will still be around and providing advice and information should you want to get into mapping in more detail.

However, some of the replies on this thread and the email reply I got from Nick leave a lot to be desired in my eyes.

Nick, can you point out where I asked for you to remove advertising? I asked for the removal of one image, nothing more, nothing less as that image is now copyrighted. However, this seems to have been taken with great offence by you for some reason that I don't understand.

Geekmapped is not a business, it is not about making money, it is about providing information. I really don't care what people say about me in rumours behind my back. I know that I'm not particularly well liked amongst quite a lot of traders and tuners because of giving out information for free that they charge a lot of money to keep hidden...

Thats good to hear Andy, someone taking a stand over the greed alot of people seem to suffer from hence leading to dodgy workmanship and inhappy customers.

In all honesty I think this has blown out of proportion on ALL fronts, fair enough the logo has to be removed but the very mention of legal action would scare me into a abrupt reply and in all honesty im sure Nick wouldnt of known about the legallity/morale issues sorrounding geek mapping.

As for the comments you know yourself as a mod over the road that things get said from behind the screen of a laptop that wouldnt be said in person and can also be misunderstood. If I were you I wouldnt be to worried about the comments mate (water off a ducks back and all that)

I think we should all remember why all these forums started, the love of Evo's and the mapping of them, so lets all be big boys wipe our mouths and move on !!

You never know evoowners and geekmapped could help each other in alot of ways Andy and I for one would like to see this happen :D

The majority of our members welcome your members on here, as we hope we are welcome on geekmapped ;)

Keep up the good work and LOVE YOUR FLAGS :p
