hi, just got my first evo 2 weeks ago.
an evo 8
are the gear changes not really smooth in evos? im not too sure as never drove another, only mine.
i had few bmws before and few stis and they were pretty smooth like you could change gear with 1 finger and it fell into 2nd easy etc.
maybe i need to pop back to dealer or is it pretty normal?
any help will be appreciated. thanks

sounds like mine tbh. lol. i drove a scoob (for my sins) before i got my evo and it was alot smoother. but i like the gears in the evo... i like to feel everything and hate it too smooth!!
but i have not driven an evo newer than a 6 so i cant help if it is normal for an 8.

you mean it seems stiff to get into gear? mainly in the earlier gears?

mine was like that.... it would be worth doing a fluid change if its not been done recently. that sorted mine out. but for now just leave the clutch down slightly longer before changing.... i did it for a while until i had time to change the fluid. :D

lots of evos tend to be tight into 1st and 2nd perticly when cold. as said gearbox oil change can often help this :)

Put some Millers CRX 75w-90 gearbox oil in there and it will be smooth as silk. Mine used to be really notchy when cold, and even crunch into 3rd first thing in the morning unless I was careful and gently eased it in. That was with Silkolene 75w-90 gearbox oil.

After fixing a leak on my trasfer box I filled both the gearbox and transfer box with Millers CRX 75w-90 and it's SSSOOOOO much better!! Even when cold, very smooth, and 3rd no longer crunches when cold.

About £70 + delivery for 5 litres from Opie Oils, so not exactly cheap, but it's worth it.

Gearbox takes 2.8 litres

Transfer box takes 0.7l

Rear Diff takes 0.7l

So you can change the lot and still have 0.8l spare. :) Can also be bought in 1l bottles if you just want to change the gearbox oil and leave the rest.

I find I get this more from cold in my Evo 6 especially trying to get into Reverse.

What I tend to do now is give the throttle a little blip then try to put into gear. Sometimes its still hard to get into reverse. If this happens I go through the box 1 to 5 then it normally goes straight into reverse.

Was thinking about changing gearbox oil. Is it hard to do?

Thanks
