fuel gauge evo 6

I dunno weather this is a commen fault. Put £40 into a nearly empty tank, which took it up to just over 3/4s. Set off to the hulloween cruise, while cruising steady on the motorway 60/70 the fuel gauge needle is quite rapidly goin down, after 10 or so miles, then it goes back up, then it goes down, then back up and so on. I know evos only really do 150-200 miles to a tank if your lucky but, The needle really shouldn't go down at a rate that i can actually see it moving. Why is the needle going down, then back up, then back down?

(all the time i was on the motroway was a steady cruise, no sudden bursts of throttle and no harsh braking) So the fuel couldn't of been sloshing around.

Could this be to do with the float getting stuck? anyone any ideas??? cheers

yea mines the same. the fuel gauge in a 6 is shocking.

mine will fluctuate a 1/4 tank. on a run guage will make its way down to just below 3/4 then stick your toe down for a bit then check the gauge and its gone up to just above 3/4 mark.
does the same between 1/4 and 1/2 as well.

yeah, thats the only bit when it didnt go down as quick. So why do they do this then?

Its the way the tanks are designed as its in like 2 chambers and 1 will syphon (sp) into the other as fuel is used so the gauge sender will go up n down according.

my 7 never used to do it though. seems mostly 6's that suffer. perhaps the sorted the syphon out to work better on later cars ??!

yep my 6 is the same to,falls down to quarter real fast then stays there forever.just come back from manchester airport hours drive ,left airport with quarter of a tank got home hour later still got quarter of a tank! it seems worse since i changed fuel pump

Makes no difference, there are gauges in either side of the tank. Nothing's 'syphoned', the pump uses a venturi effect to move fuel from one side to the other so the pump is always submerged

Yea was a scooby at a meet I went to last night and his car every time he revd it it would pop through exhaust. Rev pop rev pop rev pop rev pop rev pop this kept him amused for some time and annoyed the UC out of me. Need to get my ALS switch sorted, that would have pissed him off lol. Went up there to catch up with a few Bristol Evo owners

Someone else on here posted some good advice as the fuel gauge is quite unreliable at times and that is to reset your trip reading when you have a full tank and then to keep an eye on how many miles you're driving on the trip computer.

Thats what i do now anyway.

I just stick launch control and ALS on. It soon moves people away from the rear of my car

as regards poor gauge i use tripometer as you would on a motorbike,as regards cruises
never been on one doubt i ever will.just me and the evo out in the welsh hills ragging it
is to much fun !
