FPV Quadcopter Night Rider

Hi All,

Well what a great start to 2014. Its been a few months since I have been able to fly FPV due to other commitments and terrible weather.

The start of the video is the first full FPV flight I had done in good weather since before the new year and I enjoyed every second of it. I had to calm my nerves doing the close proximity as I had forgotten how much of a rush and fun it was.

2:16 is my first ever FPV flight at night. I have added extra LED's (5050) to the arms so that my spotter had a better chance at understanding orientation at distance in the dark. My hats off to CamSump for being a great spotter in a difficult situation.

The Sony PZ0420 (my FPV camera) performed well beyond anything I had expected in these conditions. At 3:21 I could see all the outline of the buildings and details in-between the lights of the town via my goggles but the GoPro just does not pick out all that detail the PZ0420 could see.

Where did you buy that? :) big boys toys ha ha want one!

Cheers mate, I built this one from scratch, its a custom design that's done me well so far and is super cheap to repair etc compared to say a DJI Phantom

brilliant, you should bring that to a car show

I would love to do that or even chase a convoy of Evo's across the moors for some epic views

I have tried but says no :(

Track days would also be awesome :)

The organisers that say yes have no idea about the risks involved, the fools you see at events flying DJI Phantoms above the crowds etc will ruin it for all of us.

Who said no lee??? IDE just crack on and do it with out asking

I think technically if you were to keep 'the proper' distances from people/buildings and cars and the event ground then there is nothing the organisers could do unless the local council had a by-law stating that the airspace above a property was not to be flown in (or some bye-law like that I think), that means you could do some great overhead top/down shots of the track and some wide angle shots of the event from a distance, it wouldn't be as good as chasing them round a great drift corner but it would still be great watching ;)

Do you have a license to fly these? I was looking in to it and apparently any aerial vehicle with a camera on it has to be regulated and the pilot licensed etc with the CAA?

Thanks
Andy

I agree flying above crowds etc could be dangerous but if you we on the infield at Combe in one of the marshal points you could still video the cars going round there for not dangering anyone :)

Would be a awesome angle to video a track/drift session :)

Only if you get a 'gain' from its use or over 7kg AIFW, then it suddenly stops being a toy and is then in the same category as a preditor drone.... its stupid.

I could accept a beer for doing the filming but not a create of beer as that would be classed as a 'Gain'.

The rules have recently changed now, we used to have a ceiling of 400feet, its now 1000feet and a few other rules have been relaxed...

So true B6lee, I would love to do that filming!

I know some of the drifters quite well and they love it when the get footage. They do a bit of work with togethia media, I could have a word if you like ?

And what happens if it drops out the sky and hurts someone. That would just be careless :)

Someone could also crash into me at 20mph and they have done.
Besides, I leave my fast driving for the track :)

That would be very interesting, please do mention it as I would love to chase a drifter around a track or get involved in something bigger.

With most things, common sense is a great factor for staying safe. The question was asked what if it drops into a crowd and hurts someone... The simple answer is - do not fly over crowds or people at all, always stay a safe distance and don't put yourself in a situation that could lead to getting close to anyone, its common sense and I feel I have quite a bit of that lol

I say common sense but some of the video's I have watched on Youtube with multirotors gives me the impression that simple safety and common sense are far from common at all, almost rare it seems lol
