Found stray dog

As in title. I was comin home last night pulled into my road and nearly flattened a dog.

It had a make shift lead hanging round its neck, I couldn't see anyone around and it was around half 11. I decided to take it back to mine as I was on my road anyway, she was very timid and when she saw my dog and how excited he was she just cowered. Obviously she had not been socialised with other dogs.

It became quickly aparant she felt threatened by my dog and kept growling so to the back garden she went. Meanwhile Bruno whimpering like mad cos there's a female about.

From past experience the inpound isn't open out of hours and neither is the council as we have had this prob before.

So I called the local police station where I was told to either let it go or keep hold of it til today.

As a dog person I couldn't let it go as it obviously has no road sense and I live only a road away from a main road. And it wasn't practical to keep it at mine.

I ended up takin it to my friends house and her next door neighbour took it in they already have a couple of dogs and they took a liking to it lol.

It was a brindle Irish staf prob about a year old.

I Jus couldn't believe the response I got from the police I did point out that by letting it go I might be giving the local traffic cops a job to sort out when the dog wanders into the road and causes an accident but she wasn't interested

As a dog lover I just couldn't leave it I would want someone to do the same if my dog got out the only difference is that he is tagged up

I found a dog a few weeks back, so phoned the council and was told that as it was after 5 I had 3 options, the dog was a male nakita (and was massive)

1, Just let the dog go ................. (which is just stupid)
2, take it home
3, try the dogs home they should be open

I decided to take it home, but as I have a huskie it kept trying to mount her, so in the end I took it to the dogs home, stud outside for 30mins while the people inside just kept looking at me, in the end the owners had contacted the council and they put me through so I managed to take it back home in the end, was a pain in the arse though, not very helpful

i'm glad I pay my council tax worth ever penny ..........

Yh out of hours its a joke. I don't actually know where my nearest shelter is. If the one I found was ok with my dog I would have put up with it for a night but it never happens the way it should.

Let it go seems to be the way everyone wants to deal with it which is stupid I would be real fecked off if I hit a dog in my car as a result of someone following this advice.

As for my story there has been a happy ending.

The family I left the dog with printed off some posters and put them near where dog was found and the owners came forward and the dog was pleased to see em which is good
