just wanted to say hi to everyone. my name is Richard and I was born and raised in Kingswinford, West Midlands. when I was a teenager, I moved to St.Catharines, ON, which is just a few minutes outside Niagara Falls. the Niagara region is a beautiful place, but to quote Dorothy, there's no place like home.
my dream car has always been the Evo 5 (and Evo 6),ever since I first laid eyes on it at Sutton Park back in 98 while on holiday back home. the actual cars that were there, were the Evo Xtreme cars from Xtreme UK which was in Dudley at the time and now in Stourbridge. from that moment on, I fell in love with the Evo and it's been a slow 15 years for it to become legal in Canada. once that happened, I immediately imported one from Japan. I think I paid slightly more than I should have for the car, but at that point money was really no object. I just had to have it. I'm sure you understand. LOL.
the car I chose is a white GSR that had slightly higher KM on it than others I looked at, but this one was a one owner car that was essentially unmolested and had also never been smoked in, which I hear is pretty rare for a Japanese car. the biggest modification are Tein coilovers and bracing everywhere, including an H brace under the engine. once it was here, I got to work on personalizing it to my tastes. while I have not modded the car yet, I did paint some accents on it, including the intercooler. I had read pros and cons to doing the intercooler, but honestly I have notice no difference in performance since painting it and I think it looks so much better than it did.
my plan is to only slightly mod the car with hard piping and a custom air box. I was thinking about going to speed density instead of MAF. my turbo has slight shaft play, so I plan on replacing that. I have been offered an Evo 9 turbo that has been ported and polished on the hot side. I'm not sure if I'll have to buy some sort of install kit to bolt that turbo on, but I also plan on doing an equal length header from Ross Sport.
the car has developed a slight vibration in 5th gear and also another noise that I have investigated online and it appears that it may be transfer case whine. the overall condition of the car is about 8.5-9 out of 10 and needs a slight bit of touch up here and there to be perfect. otherwise, I am completely happy with my decision to buy this car.
here's a few pics of the car. enjoy.
