thanks guys, here is what the mechanic has come back with:
essential repairs, external leaks (upper engine),engine underside leakage.these two areas of oil loss can be seen as not excessive and not showing any drips.however,it is advisable to have the vendor check the conditions and if repairable to sort the condition.
MOT expires in march,do not purchase without a full 12 months term.
nearside front bumper corner, this section of bumper is insecure-resulting in the removal of the inner plastic wheel arch section.
exhaust joints/couplings the front flexible coupling appears untidy and patched up.
no carpet in boot due to spill.
he would suggest a full service and brake check to manufactures recommendations.
what do people think???

Sounds like the usual dribble they write. Get brakes checked etc etc this is cos they are not allowed to remove wheels etc.
My mate had one done on his car by someone looking to buy it. And there was loads of comments saying they strongly advise getting this and that done before buying and getting this and that checked.
Basically they will look at a car but won't take no responsibility for anything. But poor really.

As for the oil well a better description of how much and exactly from where would help you decide cos could well be just a bit of seepage. Who knows ???!! :)

Sounds like the oils not too bad, if its not dripping its probably just seepage as lee said. The other stuff is just the usual crap to cover themselves if you find anything they havent mentioned.

So in other words it's a waste of time paying to get a car checked over?

It's more a case of they will highlight anything they find but they won't advise if it's something to worry about or not.
