It doesn't matter if the studs come out as well. Just put them back in with thread lock of youll get oil seeping through.

You'll find 1 bolt which I think holds the bottom of the turbo/ turbo elbow to the block. Remove this to lower the turbo from the manifold then slide the manifold off the head studs.

Try undoing the other end of the sas pipework and remove it with the manifold. Might give you better access to the large bolt once it's away from the rocker cover :)

Cheers Lee,
I'll give that a go this week. Just paranoid as always that i'm going to knacker something up! Wouldnt be the first time but i'm keen to learn and do the jobs that I think arent too difficult

Where did you order you new studs and nuts from. Think it might. E good plan for me too. Should you use thread lock with new studs or not as I'm reckoning the threads will be a pig to get out too!

i got mine of ebay think they wer about £12 for the set :D

Hi Lee / Guys (and girls)

Any clue where this bolt might be, I have had a look and cant see anything obvious?

Is it the bolt bottom left in this picture?

Or is access from underneath?

I also did a few more detailed checks while tinkering around. I'll need to get the turbo properly tested but hoping that the whistling may not be that as one of the hoses looks like it has a little nick in it and furthermore I do not know how I overlooked it before but noticed on the induction kit one area has been blanked off with an upside down bottle top!!

Even just moving the hose seems to show thats that properly sealed and probably air leaking from there at least;

Damaged hose (although no obvious sign of damage on inside;

Bottle top for your amusement!

Anyone know where I can get a proper blanking piece from?

New mani to go on;

Also got a better look at turbo tonight and can confirm its the genuine EVO IX GT OEM one on it (serno 49378-01570) so unfortunately it is the magnesium comp wheel one :(

The one your looking for is under neath yes. It goes through a bracket which is on the bottom of the turbo elbow which is what joins the turbo to the downpipe.

I'd say the bottle top is working fine as there isn't a great deal of pressure there. If there was it would be sucking air in which you wouldn't here. The split you have on the joiner next to the battery looks suspect though :)

Hoping to try again at finishing this job off very shortly but a little unsure now whether my threads have actually come out or if it is designed that way. You may recall I posted 2 of the bolts on opposite corners of the manifold to turbo had rusted on some much that in trying to get them out had removed the thread instead.

However, having found replacement threads and bolt on camskill here;

MITSUBISHI OE GENUINE PARTS SERVICING PARTS TUNING SPARES & SERVICE ACCESSORIES - Manifold to Turbo Bolts/Studs Nuts & Washers Kit Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 CT9A £53.99 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 1(I) 2(II) 3(III) 4(IV) 5(V) 6(VI) 7(VII) 8(VIII) Parts

It clearly states you get the following;

MD132933 WASHERS X4
MD132930 NUTS X2
MD165887 STUDS X2
MD168601 BOLTS X2

So I'm thinking ive got the 2 bolts but assuming the design makes it look like the nuts have seized onto the studs.

Am I correct? No point spending 50 quid for a new set if there is nothing wrong with the ones I have albeit a little rusty?

Although being a cheap skate I might go to Mitsi direct and only order the parts I need rather than full set!

For clarity its front right and back left currently that are bolts (or as ive assumed nuts seized onto the studs)

Sorry I know this threads going on a bit :)

Cheers Roy.

I might order them instead.

However, I was more interested to find out the exact configuration of the OEM setup as certainly if the description on camskill is anything to go by the configuration suggests not 4 studs with washers and nuts but 2 studs and 2 bolts.

So trying to understand if there is any reason behind this or if I just removed all the studs and replaced with 4 ebay bolts that would be fine?

They probably all got changed with the manifold. I helped my mate Roy (roynx79) do his and we changed 2 manifold to turbo bolts to stud and nut purely because the "original" bolts just didn't get past the tubes on the manifold.
