excellium 97

hi all, ive just bought my first evo. shes a 1996 evo 4. can anybody tell me if its ok to use excellium 97 in her or is it best to stick to v power as its only ever been run on this. the only prob is that theres no shell garages near me:sad:

tesco 99 is good
BP have aswell but cant remember off the top of my head think its ultimate
as long as the octane level is 98 or above

welcome mate me personally aslong as its super unleaded ill put anything in but not just normal unleaded id neva do that

yeah i would,
the higher the octane the better,
its ok to use lower octane now and again but try and stick to high octane if possible

Depends what the car has been set up for really but 99% of evos run 99 fuel so unled you want to damage your engine then best to stick to that.

Shell V power or tesco momentum99 will do the job.
Quite sure bp ultimate is only 97 so if your planning on using that or excelum 97 then I would take a trip up to see Antony and the boys at indigo-gt. They are in myrther and he can do anything you want from a oil change to a 700bhp conversion. One of the top Evo specialists in the country

to be safe you should really run it on 99 or drive steady if you have lower ron in the tank.


If you want to run it on 97 then I'd take it to a tuner with a tank of 97 in it and just get him to check the fueling/knock to see if it is safe running on that fuel........it may be fine, but until its checked on that fuel then stick with 99ron.

I always put Shell 99ron in mine.... However today after my RR Day i was low on fuel so put in some 103 Octane "race fuel"... It went like lightning for the first 4 miles then went back to normal.... I'd go for 99ron everyday... If your in a pickle then BP Ultimate is ok for its 98ron, Hope this helps...

There is a big difference between 99 and 97 when it comes to timing and engine knock when possible stick to 99 and if you need to use 97 stay off boost unless it has been mapped for 97

if you really did notice a power difference when running the race fuel then you need to get your map checked mate as it sounds like it could be knocking on 99ron.

Tesco's Momentum is miles better than BP Ultimate.

I only go to BP as a last resort as I have never seen any gains from it, in fact, the only noticeable difference for me is a decrease in MPG.

I used to think that BPultimate was 99 but no I was wrong when I pulled up at the pump and it said 97. In which case it's just plain old super unleaded but not the special 99 that us boys need

"Ultimate" relates to the additives that are included in the formulation of the fuel.

It really is poo in my opinion and I have trialled it twice in a Legacy GTB and an Evo IX to Holland and back. I ended up spending £55 more in the GTB and £70 more in the IX than when I filled up from Shell.

The irony is that BP boast an increase in MPG and claim something around 20+ miles to the full tank :whistling: :whistling: :whistling:

Mpg ain't really the issue with a high performance car like an Evo though, it's better to have the right fuel that ain't leaving you with loads of nasty knock that could distroy your engine.

If your talkin mpg then I'm getting 15mpg round town but then that what happens when you own a 500 brake car

I know what you are saying buddy and I totally agree with you but for the benefit of the consumer, they need to be more clear on what the fuel is actually good for as many high performance car owners use it simply because they are under the impression that it is BP's equivalent to VPower.

Your right cos it ain't a patch on Vpower or tesco 99. Ultimate is just a fancy name for super unleaded 97ron the same as excillium is :meh:

They are both 97ron fuels not the required 99 which is require in an Evo
