Evo4 idle on start up

Hi guys. my problem is that only in the mornings or first start up in the day my car idles badly for about a minute or 2 (it even turns off if I dont rev it a little bit) until it gets some engine temperature. Why can this be? How can I fix it?.

Besides I believe Im still running rich but recently I've had my MAF cleaned so Im still testing it. I've noticed now I load 1.2 instead the 1bar I used to. Can this be from the MAF cleaning?

My car is stock. I dont have anything on it besides the HKS filter and HKS BOV. Is running 1.2bar fine? We dont have good quality fuel in my country. Probably it is around 80 something the octane. I believe stock boost for the e4 is 0.7bar but what would be the maxium???

Thanks in advance!

Edit. Does it affect in something if my battery is about to die? Because if I dont drive the car for about 3 days my battery dies. So Im planning on getting one soon. 50amp would do fine? One more thing. Ive read about resetting the fuel trims. When I do so I just need to disconnect te battery for 2min and then when I start it leave it for about 10 to 15min with out any revving? Or can I rev it and drive it normally?

If the battery keeps dieing then you need to do an idle reset each time.
Connect battery and run for 10 min with no electrics on.
Continue running for a further 10 min with all electrics on, stereo, lights, heater, etc
Then take for a drive to sort fuel trims out.

As for running 1.2bar, should be fine but get your afr checked. Even tho you believe to be running rich.

Thank you very much. I believe Im running rich because my car is consuming more than before and when I step on the gas (specially on boost) I see a cloud of black smoke coming out of the exhaust. I'll try to get AFR readings. Not all mechanics here have it.

Could this bad fuel burning be caused because I didnt Idle reset well when my battery dies?

Apart from this I want to fix the idle I get when I start up the car for the first time in the day. Any suggestions of what could be causing this problem?

Thanks

Idle reset needed to sort your bad idle in the morning ...

If its only on cold start I'd be looking at the coolant temp sensor. Even if your battery is poor it will still store the fuel trims so I wouldn't bother with a reset (it constantly adjusts itself anyway when driving about).

Ok I'll look for it. BUT it only happens in the first start in the day. You see, If I start the car i the morning, drive it 10/15min then leave it until de night (cold engine again) it wont idle.

Can this be related with the bad fuel consumption/burning problem?

Do a self diaognosis by bridging pins 1 and 4 on the obd port, turn on the ignition and count the flashes of the engine management light.

a long flash = 10
a quick flash = 1

eg 2 long flashes followed by 1 quick flash would equal 21

I'm back. So I got another coolant temp sensor and now when I turn my car for the first time in the day it has almost not idle. But it is still running rich and consuming a lot more fuel that it should. Still getting the big black cloud of smoke when boosting. Any other suggestion of what I should look for to fix my problem?

I dont get any check engine light so when my friend tried to scan it thru the OBD port he doesnt get any errors. I told him about bridging pins 1 and 4 but I believe he doesnt understand how to do that or why do it because he has the same port in his scanner so he says he doesnt need to do that. Is he right?

Still having problems,

Check the fault code yourself by bridging 1&4, some code readers are not the best and quite possibly your mate might have needed 1&4 bridging anyway for his reader to even work?

Why does he have to bridge pins 1&4? Why does just pluggin the reader/scanner doesnt work? I've told him about bridging those pins but he says that bridging pins and reading flashes was for old cars and that he has the correct scanner for the car. Would it help knowing the brand of his reader?

Please help me with my problem! Im starting to fed up with my car because no one can fix this issue. Also I've recently read that the car starts running rich when the O2 sensor is bad or not working properly? But this was on an EvoX. Could it be the same problem in my IV?

A bad thermostat gave me bad running problems in the mornings and was using a lot more fuel.It sometimes cut out and my tick over was all over the place too.It may be worth a try as their not expensive to replace and easy to do.

It maybe I'll give it a try. See I had a bad thermostat and it blew my waterpump and radiator. So I change everything but I remove the thermostat. So I dont have one. In my country we rarely get below 0 degrees C... So we didnt thought it would affect... It just takes a bit longer to warm up.

Thanks mate!

Bridging 1&4 puts it into diagnostic mode. If I use the tactrix 1.3u cable on an older evo I have to bridge 1&4 in order for it to work.

Just do this yourself and count the flashes.

Thank you very much. I'll try that.

So I checked the thermostat that used to be in my car and it says 76.5 C and the only ones I've found around here are of 82C. Searching on the web I read that the OEM thermostat is of 82C. Is this right? Should I look for the same 76.5C thermostat or I wont have any problems using the 82C one? remember my problem is that I'm running super rich at the moment.
