Anyone else read the plans for the EVO XI?

I understand it was announced at the Geneva motorshow that Mitsubishi would be releasing the EVO XI in 2014.

I have to say I am slightly bemused by the details so far;

DIESEL ELECTRIC HYBRID! C'mon

Although they are still targeting a sub 5 sec for 0-60 and I think I saw somewhere engine will be 1.6 and 2.0

last i heard there would be no XI as they were concentrating on the electric car and no intentions of being in the rally

Probably about right mate .....its a shame but needs must with all the legislations at the moment surrounding emissions, etc.

But if its diesel Hybrid then it probably be a high revving little turbo engine anyways so im sure a few tweaks here and there can be done

Take the CRZ some japanese tuners are getting some awesome performance from turbo kits.

They will never be able to stop people modding no matter how "Green" car manufacturer's go, someone, some where will try and increase its carbon foot print :whistling: :awesome:

hence the XI being a hybrid mate .....I dont think they would kill off the "evo" brand as it MAYBE worth more to Mitsi, but changing the direction of the brand is easily done with a R and R dept like Mitsi's

Again use the Honda CRZ .....the Mugen model and new sportier factory CRZ will have the Red R...normally reserved for the "Racing side" of Hondas range.

Dont forget most the Le Mans 24 Hours have been won by diesels for years pal

I've never driven a hybrid, but recently i have been driving nissan leafs quite alot. I expected (and wanted) to hate them, unfortunatly, it pains me to say, i like the way they drive. Very nice to cruise in and suprisingly quick. That with an added combustion engine that can be tuned i would imagine could work very well with a few more years development.

The words green and performance will never co-exist in the same sentence, the simple rule of science is to get more out you need to put more in , I'm afraid the days of the performance car is over, and to see anything better and affordable than a petrol combustion engine won't happen in our lifetime gents.... IMO of course

I would have agreed with that a few months ago. I would be very interested to drive a tuned hybrid like the mugen crz to see how they perform. The technology of electric vehicles is developing very quickly, that paired with a small turbo engine should be able to give some good results.

I believe that nissan are currently developing an electric sports car, with the history of the performance cars they produce i cant see them releasing it unless it is up to the job. I guess we will all have to wait and see.

My opinion is that: I would drive an electric car or hybrid all week to work if I could still drive a fast petrol car at the weekends and the odd night


My mate has an electric car it's a Nissan leaf ,he is a taxi driver and only uses it for local runs as the battery don't last long maybe 2hrs or less.ive been in it and I'm impressed and I would definitely buy one if the battery life was extended.

I guess we need to see where the development takes us.

I'm not against electric cars but the big think for me is that if you give it some beans it will only last an hour or two best and then needs to be plugged in overnight to charge. Thats along way off from spending 5 mins filling your tank to the brim with fuel and then even in the EVO knowing you can probably get 300 miles to a tank giving it some or 800 miles in a small turbo diesel golf!

Sadly its the CO2 ootprint thats making manufacturers move or introduce models to lower their footprints in line with government directives.

Porsche have put a diesel engine in their Panamera.

The Citreon DS4 looks like quite a funky hybrid albeit 30K for a top end one!

So moving in the right direction.

For me its just associating the EVO with diesel and Hybrid doesnt feel right.

I'd rather they name it completely different

I completely agree about renaming it. Evos are 2.0 turbos and shouldnt leave the factory in any other form in my opinion. However its taken mitsi a long time to establish and build the evo brand, i doubt they would want to throw that away and have to start again.

IMO the future is hydrogen fuel cells not hybrid, there's an article somewhere which says to mine the li/ion out the ground for one prius makes more carbon emissions than the entire car will make in it's life time

I agree that hydrogen is the future, however, i believe that there needs to be an alternative before then. Hydrogen technology is not advanced enough to be realistic at the moment so while it is being developed i think we are going to have to make do with electric.

I also understand that more polution is created from making the cars than driving them, but we dont get taxed on that. The price of fuel is going to put most people out of affording to run petrol / diesel before hydrogen is an affordable solution.
