Hi All

I am new to this site after purchasing my first Evo x this weekend it is the FQ300 SST. must say I am very happy with the car and it is a massive difference to my usual BMW type car.

I am looking for some advise, my car only has 12k on the clock and already has a great service history. however When running first thing on a morning the car revs jump about whilst driving at low revs causing the car to surge, it also feels like I need to press the accelerator more to make the car move.

I have been looking for similar posts but most talk about the erratic idle as apposed to when driving.

now the car is covered under warranty so I have no worries their just wondering if this is normal or if anyone else has this? once up to temp the car is fine.

appreciate any advice.

The throttle is drive-by-wire so the car can adjust its sensitivity (eg the throttle is more responsive as you go "up" modes into sport and super sport),and conversely when the car is on its cold map the throttle is very very reserved and the car feels incredibly sluggish. So that's pretty much normal and the reason it's fine when warmed up is cos the car is out of the cold map so throttle response is "normal".

The revs jumping around though and the surging....mmm...don't think it should be doing that though, but without seeing it it's hard to say if it's normal, but I don't think it is.

hi thanks for the reply, I have had it in Mitsubishi a few times now where they have played about with the SST and changed the fluids etc. still the same. what seems to happen is as you are getting close to the point of changing gear the revs jump up and down until it actually changes making the car surge, it is like it doesn't know if it wants to change gear or not.

however when warm no issues after about 10mins of driving that is.

Yeh the sst box is lumpy when cold , so just let it warm up before you drive hard , as you should really anyways

Old thread but thought I would update. I took the car to evotune in durham who diagnosed the car as having a bad map completed in the past. From this I had a stage 1 remap and a full service completed by these guys and the issue completely went.

Great service And would highly recomend. Only place I will take my car now.

I am not too far from Durham and my 300SST will soon be out of warranty. So you have me interested! What was involved in the stage 1 remap?

It was HKS filter, Decat, new boost solenoid and a remap. Give me 363bhp on the rolling road and so much smoother to drive.
