Evo X high mileage

Looking to buy a 2008 (08) Evo X FQ-300. The one i've got my heart set on has done 72,000 miles. Never owned an Evo before, could anyone tell me what i should be looking out for with common problems or if there are common problems with the Evo X with high miles on the clock? Or would you suggest buying one not as old.

The age of a X is less important as the mileage as they all arrived in 2008 and Colt/mitsi have been selling them since.
With the mileage I guess it depends all what servicing and work has been done.

Like Cragga have said, the mileage is more important then the age as they are all essentially 2008 even if on a 61 plate as they were imported in 2008 and parked up in a 'hangar'.

The service history would be key, not only how frequent but where.

Also, don't get too hung up on the mileage as a lot of the X's have been un-abused motorway trains…..

Is it SST or Manual?

My main worry would be clutch slip and also with that mileage, check if the timing chain and associated bits have been changed (This would be around £800-£1000) as if not done, you should factor this in to the price as you will need to do it for peace of mind. Mine has done 45k and I am planning to do it in the next 5k miles.

Mines on 60k. Looking at the history before i had it the timing chain was done, its been fully serviced, on 56k the ayc pump failed otherwise i have had 7k trouble free daily driver miles.......oh and fuel pump relay issue. Stone chipped rear doors from stone kickup but sorted with the turtle wax lipstick and black polish.....ok not a great way to sort it but its hidden the eyesore that was there. Discs and pads lasted 55k before i replaced them under my ownership from 52500, discs were very much worn

If there is a local X owner to where you are it might be an idea to ask for one to join you on the 'viewing'.

Just test drove an Evo X FQ-300 but with the 330 upgrade. It has the 360 bodykit also. Whats all the added extras from the original FQ-300 to the 330 that i will have to let the insurance company aware of? Many thanks

Boys, just having my X in for its 20k service.
£400 they are charging me at the mitsubishi place.
is it really worth it for probably just an oil change...? ive done the breaks myself (new pads),and ive just put on a different air filter so they wont touch them.
i know youre going to say yes you have to have it at a proper garage, but its such a rip off. I know someone at the Audi garage that will do it for £130..
thoughts...?

My 2011 Evo X FQ 300 SST came with the 3-years service package and is still under warranty. I have little choice,therefore, but to stick with the 'main dealer' for the rest of the year.
I understand that the 20,000 miles service is more than just an oil change but any competent independent Evo 'specialist' service agent will be OK and most likely cheaper.
These are complicated vehicles with wonderful performance, and performance costs money--rather a lot of it! :shock:
No need to feel ripped off,however.

Mitsi service prices are a joke, and they don't even do it properly. Now my car is out of warranty I get a reputable tuner to service my car. At least they do it properly and are cheaper.

probably not, thats why you should take it to a specialist like TRL etc..
