Hi folks new here so be easy lol

considering an evo x fq300 because of better service intervals over previous models.

Drove one with sst box ad it seemed ok for manual although not as good as BMW dct or Audis dag transmissions.

Heard that SST have issues involving 'drive slow' warnings etc. Is it as bad as ppl say because I've also read reviews about the drone on the motorway and lack of 6th gear sobwas wondering if you get the same with the SST.

also how much load can the box handle with regards to mods? I'm only thinkin light mods, remap exhaust etc

thanks

It is supposed to be the same throughout, or at least that is what my techy link in the dealers has told me on several occasions.

The chain stretch issue is also the same on the manuals.

Yes buddy, the timing chain stretches on the X. I explained this to you in the first reply that I posted.

Hi there

I picked up my 2008 EVO X back in December and thought I would just note down my experiences with the SST in case you find it useful. Below is a link to a pic of the car if you are interested.

http://www.evoowners.co.uk/f7/hello-again-1139.html

I’m in no way mechanically minded and know very little about cars but except I like fast ones 

Anyway I decided to go for the FQ300 SST as I really wanted the paddles, although now the FQ330 is available in SST. This was great fun for a week or so but now unless I’m really gunning it I poodle around in auto. I do find the car a bid lumpy at low revs and pulling away from cold involves a bit of a delay. This soon disappears after a few minuets.

As she will soon be out of warranty I have been looking at mods and unfortunately this is where I think the SST is not the best choice. As you know the gearbox is the main spanner in the works with regards to increasing power.
I have found some information from the guys at xtreme UK where I got the car about a gearbox upgrade that allows for greater power throughput. Unfortunately I was quoted £7500 to increase the power to 385bhp including the gearbox upgrade, which is a little out of my range at the moment.

I have also noticed that a lot of EVO X performance parts are not generally suited for the SST. While looking for a stainless exhaust nearly all the ones I found stated not Suitable for SST. I know there are still quire a few available for the SST it’s just the choice is not quite as large. Again as I’m not technical I’m sure someone here can tell us why there is a difference.

Evo X SST Gearbox and Power Up-grade

Anyway I know I didn’t answer your question regarding minor upgrades but hopefully you found some of it useful.

I may sound like a negative Nancy but I do love the car and wouldn’t replace it with anything else I just sometimes wish I had the manual.

Take Care
