Thanks for the info. The advice on braking is varied. Some say to run the pads in gently, others to go hard to clean them. I will do as you suggest: mainly normal braking with a few harder goes thrown in.

Yes they need bedding in gradually as normal but once bedded in they need a good thrashing to keep the discs clean

So I bit the bullet and had a set of Performance Friction front discs fitted. Ran them in softly then built up to several 70 to 40 cycles. All good. Maybe a 1000 miles on them now. Then the judder comes back! WTF. I did the rears too. Do I just thrash them now and hope for the best?

Worse. I cannot believe that I have fitted 3 dud sets of discs. I swapped the wheels front to rear and fitted new front tyres. Nothing. Maybe the callipers are bad? The car is barely drivable.

The car had a full service two months ago. The guy is a specialist so I would expect he checked the ball joints and bushes but now you’ve raised it, I will ask him. No other knocks or shakes to tell me anything else is wearing. I am hoping that the callipers are not shot...

Does the car drive in a straight line with the steering wheel facing straight ahead?

Is the steering twitchy for a second under hard accelleration?

Does the car pull slightly at all to one side when driving?

The car drives straight and doesn’t pull under braking. It is very straight under power. In fact in all respects apart from the front brakes it is spot on. Suggestions I am receiving away from here are overheating due to no engine braking and worn or damaged callipers. Each time the discs have been replaced, the juddering develops after a month or two - maybe after 1000-1500 miles.

A quick update.
New Girodiscs (again) to the front.
500 miles on, including 200 under very easy braking then several 70-40 cycles pretty hard.
Track day today in 28C and no shudder.
So far, etc.
