Pick up my Evo GSR SST FQ-300 next Saturday, Whippeee and I have a couple of questions.

I was going to install a bov but looking around the web it would seem that I might be better off buying a K&N Typhoon Induction Kit.

Would you agree or am I wasting my money?

Secondly is there a hack where you can watch dvd's when moving?

Thanks

You might want to search for bovs and sst as apparently there are some bovs the sst just doesn't like. As for wasting your money, it depends what it is you want. Neither the bov nor induction kit will increase performance, and the bov might adversely affect driveability. The induction kit will probably give it a better noise, but you might risk hitting overboost and needing the car's map tweaked too, so keep that in mind when setting a budget. As for the DVD issue, didn't even know you could play DVDs lol. Haven't done this myself, but;

Hi Aidy, I wanted to increase the noise. I was looking at getting the Turbo Smart BOV but I'm not sure now. I managed to get £400 off the dealer so that's my budget. I don't really want to mess to much, I was hoping for a simple diy jobbie

I'm not mechanically minded so I would't know what over boost is, even if it smacked be round the face .lol

Thanks for the link for the dvd hack i'll try it when I get the car next Saturday. I was hoping it might keep the missus happy on long journeys instead of nagging me for going to fast. lol

Anything that affects air-flow (induction kits, exhaust, de-cat etc) can cause the boost pressure from the turbo increase, or build quicker, and that can cause the car to think that something might be broken, so to protect itself it puts the car into a "limp mode" where power is drastically cut until you stop and start the car again. Not what you want when you're overtaking someone :) It can be sorted with tweaks to the ECU, but that's money on top of money. The BOV won't cause you any further problems, but as I said make sure you get one that you know works on the SST.

Thanks for the explanation and advice it looks like the safest bet will be a bov.

so aidy, youre saying that if you get a simple KNN induction air filter and swap that for the standard one, then you might get problems?

i was thinking of doing that?

wanted a few changes like the KNN and a new back box for the exhaust..

Just swapping the filter will probably be ok, but if you got rid of the airbox etc then you *might* have a problem. Same if you de-cat the car.

i thought you have to change a few bits if you get a KNN etc?
obv its a completely different size.

and if you de-cat the exhaust, doesnt it fail the MOT?
im not gonna do that anyway, just gonna get a back box i reckon
