Started up my evo and was just letting it idle until it gained some heat. It was running for less than a minute then died out. Tried to start it again wouldn't start. Any ideas what could cause this?

You tried locking and unlocking car to see if it's an imobiliser issue or is the engine management light on ? Could be crank sensor fault ??

There's over a quarter of tank in it. Tried unlockin and lockin to check if it was the immobiliser but that didnt work. I can only assume that it is sensor related.

think fuel pump will buzz for 1 second when ignition is turned on so put your head under car near the tank and get someone to turn the ignition to see if you can hear it buzz. if it does then that should rule out any fuel pump or imobiliser problems :)

crank sensor,plugs,coil packs?

no wont be plugs and i doubt both coilpacks will go at same time. id go for crank sensor.

just have a check on the cam and balance belts cos if the balance belt has snapped then it will prob have knocked the crank sensor off, this will cause it not to start

Yeh, its a simple swap but its in a really tricky place to gain access to.

Have you fitted anything to the engine recently? Mods or replaced parts etc.

No mods on engine apart from hks d valveQUOTE]

Probably sounds daft, but this could be a possible cause. If its letting air in whilst the engine is trying to start it will cause idling issues, and in rare cases, preventing the car from starting.
