I have recently suffered an electrical fire in the passenger footwell of my car.

The insurers are still trying to find the cause of the problem.

Has anyone suffered anything similar?

George

its a common problem on e7/8/9s more e7/8s thou water gets into the plugs in the kick panel that control air bags, intercooler spray, wipers etc i l looked at mine when i found my wipers didnt work and the plug fell apart so i cut the plugs off, cut some wire about 20cm in length and soldered all 25 wires now no issues.

As Geof and Gaz has said ....Water gets in behind inner arch on passenger side, travels up to a loom which has a black box wrapped around it with no waterproofing so water puddles up inside and travels down loom into plugs in passenger footwell and causes numerous issues like wipers, acd and light problems too name but a few.

I am speaking to Mitsi about it and they refuse to accept is a manufacturers warranty unless I pay mitsi to a diagnostics on my car and even then it is up to mitsi to fix it under "good will" as its out of warranty

I have posted up over the road also and have had no takers but im sure if all who have suffered this problem got together and "fought: mitsi they would accept fault and fix them....

Mitsi will not just re-wire and fix the plug either they have quoted 800 quid to rewire the whole lot !!!!

Even if people dont have this issue by driving there car in the rain they will get it through washing if they clean under the car !!! So its BLATANTLY a design fault but Mitsi dont agree !!!

If you have a 7/8/9 with this issue and have photos please send to me with your name and addy aswell as vin number of car as I am NOT lying down on this one and if we get enough folks together Mitsi have to listen, IF not im thinking watchdog or some sort of consumer agency ???

All my docs are in the car at the moment. I have claimed fire damage to the insurance company. They have had the car for over a month now but still havent found the cause of the problem as far as I am aware.
I will give you my phone number rather than my address if you would like to contact me.
Like you I will be writing to Mitsubisi about my issues. My car is only 5 years old and I've had it since new and regularly serviced so a problem like this should not happen.

It shouldn't but it will as it's a fault by mitsi ! They won't recognize it until you have the car diagnostic checked by mitsi !

Even then I'm sure they will worm out of it unless we all put case forward to them as a common fault .....I'm in hong kong till 20th of April so pm me all details please guys

Geo take number and email off it's a public forum and you never know just pm your details mate

Tell your insurance company to check passenger inner arch and they will see it plain as day.... Also show them the thread over the road !

Gaz you lazy wotsit ......pm me and I'll give you my email!

My car caught fire when I was driving it. A bit scary when you see flames on the inside of a car late at night.
Luckily a cop car was following and pulled over when I did. They had a fire extinguisher and put the fire out. The fire brigade were called as the fire ignited again once it was out.

Who are you writing to at Mitsubishi? Can you let me have their address please.
Thanks
