Hi people, im new on here and don't really know anything about evo's. I have been offered a part ex with my dc2 type R. The deal appeals to me, probably because a evo 6 has been a dream for me. Anyhow the seller has stated clearly that a evo 7 diff was put on the car, but since the change the diff light has come on? DC.....something light? Would this be right?

AYC??

Sounds a bit iffy to me, depends on how good the offer is. But by the sounds of it youll be shelling out straight on repairs.

Has he said the AYC light came on straight after they switched diffs? If so it may just need bleeding correctly... But I would still be cautious. New diff (2nd hand) around 300-400 plus fitting!!!

Just got off the phone, he sounds genuine, but they all do I guess. States that a evo 7 diff got fitted, but due to different sensors this is the reason why. Its been fitted by himself as he is mechanically sound. Says no sound from it at all and the car performs exceptional on the road.

Different sensors is wrong!!! Why did he change diff in the 1st place? He can't be mechanically sound if he didn't bleed the system to get rid of the AYC light!!
You will also notice a difference if it's not been fitted/bled correctly...

Ok, iv never been in a evo before but have been in many other performance cars so not sure I will notice on a run. Not sure why had it changed, so worst case scenario its the diff? also been reading about on here.......diff runs on a pump? could be this too.

Sounds to me like the lights come on and he's potentially telling a "story" of what he's done. Although to be fair to the guy, the usual trick is to take the bulb out of the speedo cluster.

I'd want to know why he's changed it too.

It's not a massive problem though, just has the potential of being a bit of a job to fix straight away. As said could be a simple bleed, or at worst sourcing and fitting of a new pump.

You won't feel it at all in a test drive, as it only really activates when losing traction/cornering hard. A lot of people say that in fast road use its actually still quite hard to corner hard enough to notice it working.

Yeah he said over the phone that he could have easily took the bulb out to hide it. And pleaded he was a genuine, honest person. If I did buy the car, can I make further damage? I know its best to get things fixed ASAP, its a 100 mile drive home. Is the car still useable in this state?

Should be fine. If you feel your getting a good deal then go for it, it's not like its a monster problem.

I swapped for a Subaru a few years back and the engine let go after a week! AYC or diffs aren't a big deal to me now

The Diffs do need bleeding in a correct manner and need setting up to do this with a computer, not along job to do if you have the right tools which you do need to do this correctly!
