evo 9 fq340 problem whinning noise oil light flickers on at tic over help please ?!?!

Iv Just Recently Bought A Evo 9 Fq34o And It Has Full Service History And Always Been Well Maintained To The Highest Level And Iv Noticed The Oil Light Has Started Flickering On And Off On Tic Over But Soon As You Give It Little Bit Of Revs It Goes :/ Iv Noticed Too A High Pitched Whinning Noise Happens When Revs Go Up And Higher The Revs Higher The Noise. I Noticed Too The Oil Light And The Noise Started Happening At The Same Time Can Anybody Help As I Know Bugger All About Evos Lol Thanks Guys. Oh The Car Runs Fine Too With No Knocks Or Bangs Or Smoke Or Overheat. It Still Boosts Fine Too

Iv Checked The Oil Its On Max So Oil Light Shouldnt Come On

Oil light is a pressure indicator NOT a lvl indicator.

Your seeing low oil pressure on tick over. I'd say oil pump. Sorry to say...

How high is the idle rpm?? Is the starter motor sticking?ad compressor shot and at idle its slowing the engine speed down?

Had a simular issue on a misi and a Hyundai before..it was ancillaries slowing the engine down ..lowering the idle so much that the oil light flickered

its idle between 0 and 1 and dont think starter motor is sticking. cant see the engine being shot only done 37 thousand and it aint been abused. noise sounds like a belt slippng but on tic over noise goes. its very strange few ppl said its oil pump but some ppl have said a oil pump dont create pressure? like i said runs fine just this high pitched belt noise and on tic over oil light flickers

I say undo the brlts and see If Any ancillary is Stück/ not freely spinning

see If the starter smells funny or gets hot ( you will know ,smells like death)



If thats All Good ,get a oil pressure guage and measure the pressure at the pump .( hole where the preddire sending unit threads in )

If that fails youll have to remove the timing belt,and front case / pump .

It can be done with the engine still Fitted. Bit bfore you get in too deep,Look for filings/shavings in the oilpan . And inspect Tür pick up tube to see If the mesh is clogged.

Because its done 37k it must be perfect Lmfao mate I've changed a lump on a 13plate cars that's done 4k!!! Anythin can fail at any time!! Evos are common for oil pump goin and wreckin cranks etc... Also the balancer belt snaps wraps round timin belt also takes the engine out... Get some one to put a pressure gauge on them pump and see what u have then..

If the light comes on while thrashing it yes.. but If it comes on randomly and at low rpm..it could have numerous causes,doesnt have to mean the end of the world

Oil light wil only come on because the pump is makin low oil pressure end of and as the rpm picks up the pressure will increase and knock the light off! So on tick over ur engine isn't makin enuf pressure so vital components are at risk of starving of oil and causing internal damage end of the swarf will run round in ever possible oil gallery.. Mate u come on here askin for advice and most of us have experienced these problems and scenarios first hand! If u don't like being told the possibilities don't ask!! But the fact the oil light is on check the main heart of the motor which is the oil pump.. If its not tha then all well and good.. But because it hasn't been thrashed so ur told or its done 37k with history etc doesn't mean Anythin.. I appreciate ur new to the evo scene but take some advice they can be costly and always expect the worse outcome Anythin other wud be a bonus lol
We are all here to help and advise u as I said most of us know abit more than others but we are on here to help u.. For a proper piece of mind take it to a reputable tuner they can do all the checks as I said hope its a quick fix for u dnt want u takin any advice opinions the wrong way we are tryin to help u

guys can a balance belt cause a drop in oil pressure on idle if something was wrong with it ? cheers

Wudn have though so matey mine doesn't have a balancer shaft belt but they do snap and wrap timing belt up n then catastrophe

yeah been looking they say the teeth on the balancer belt can frey and it starts to slip and so the turbo dont boost properly is that true ?......iv been told the balancer belt can fly off and wrap around the timing belt but surely i would notice it if it did correct ?
