Evo 8 Gsr Clutch Need Help Finding Supply & Fithelp

I could of sworn i put up this post yesterday, came to see if anyone has replied and cant find it anywhere:meh:

My Evo is a completely standard GSR 260, 2005 reg, 5 speed, recently it feels like the clutch is slipping, being mechanically clueless ive no idea what type of clutch to get put in or if i will need a flywheel also.

Ive always wanted to keep it standard but from what ive read it seems an uprated clutch is the better option.

I only use the car for everyday driving, nothing heavy.
Will i need a flywheel aswell as a clutch?

While im getting the clutch done im going to get the 45,000+ service done too.

Im based in Cumbria but will travel a hundred or so miles to the right garage.

Ive looked through the internet but its impossible to gage how good or honest a garage is based on their own website/writeup.

The members on this site seem to be much much more knowledgable than any garage or anyone ive ever been/spoke to.

I called a local Evo motorsport specialist (who ive used for a service) who quoted me £1,145 for a clutch and flywheel fitted which i was going to pay this week but looking on here ive seen members selling new clutches for a fraction of that so now i dont know what to do for the best.
Is £1145 reasonable for a clutch and flywheel fitted? he didnt say what brand of clutch/fly it was but he did say its slightly uprated from the factory fit.

Im not flush for cash otherwise id just pay the £1145 but if i can save on the ££ i obviously will, but i also dont want to make the mistake trying to get it done on the cheap and end up having someone who doesnt really know Evos messing my car up.

The serice was coming in around £750 is that is the average price for a 45,000+ service? am i better to buy the bits for that myself and find a quality mechanic to do the service?

Any help on my best way forward will be much appreciated.

Not too sure on garages around your ways buddy but money wise as its the 45k service the cambelt will need doing too so will be a fair bit more. Are they going to do the ayc as well? You may not need the flywheel chances are you won't and if your putting a standardish clutch back in the fly won't be a problem. As for the clutch you would only uprate if your thinkin of tuning or maybe track use with launches, otherwise the standard clutch is more than adequate. See what others say on the matter but speaking to a recommended garage would be better I would say. Who has quoted 1100 quid?

Skim the fly wheel to take any heat spots off while it's apart it's cheap enough to do and go with standard clutch if it's staying as it is or an organic for a little leeway

The quote was from AMS Arnside Motorsport in Cumbria, he said he'd want the car for a couple of days and it was £1145 inc VAT.

Ive got a mate whos a mechanic lecturer in the local college whos now said he will do it for me, time permitting, hes got a big farm with a proper garage set up and is highly recomended.

Is there any members on here who you could recommend for me to buy a clutch from?
I seen a member called john@evobreakers who was selling clutches but the date on the post was a month or so ago, ive pm'd him so hopefully he might still have one. If he hasnt got any is there anyone else you could recommend?

What bits would i need to buy for the major service?
I see johnevobreakers has a belt kit, what else would i need?

Ive got a full Rallyart history apart from the last stamp that was done as AMS Arnside so would it be worth me keeping the service history up to date with specialists rather than getting the major service done by my mate.

If you were to take a wee drive up to South Ayrshire in Scotland I would use Steve at Boanerges Performance, there is nothing he doesnt do or not know about the evo, a true gentleman as well.

And I can assure you considerably cheaper than your previous quote!

Christ. I just paid £799 at indigo-GT and it was changed within 4 or 5 hours (I sat in the office and watched TV whilst it was done )
That was for a brand new later model clutch and flywheel.

There must be cheaper places than Arnside nearby. I'd rather drive a few hundred miles than pay that price!!

Up your way i would say Evotune as nige has stated. Jamie will see you right. shouldnt be paying much more than £800 suppy and fit like already stated

Thanks for all the advice lads, ive got a mate whos going to fit it for me for £150 just ordered a clutch which should be around the £250-£300 mark.

Will keep the Evotune Durham contact in mind for future references, just looked him up online and he has a great set up, up there.

If it's been slipping for a while then you'll probably need the flywheel skimmed or replaced.
