Evo 8 engine into evo 4???

Hi guys going to puting my8 engine into an evo 4 and was wondering what little bits and bobs have to be changed to allow it to fit.i kno ive got to swap some pins over for my 8 ecu to fit.also I have to us 4 radiator pipes im told.

Is there anything else?

Not entirely sure on the 4, but when I put an 8 engine into my 5 I needed to change over the oil filter housing and get new pipe work in for the oil cooler, other than that, everything else was a straight swap.

Hopefully someone will confirm or call BS on this though and point you in the right direction

I'm sure rob will like to see this thread too, although when we pulled his engine out everything apart from the transfer box seemed the same almost like an 8 engine would slot straight in

Well robs looked a fair bit different to mine when I had it out so I wouldn't think so but there are others on here a lot more informed than me

Will fit straight in and a few wires to change but your own transmission is fine as is your ecu and injectors.

When you say wires I take it you mean the ones for ecu as you have to swap some of the pins around ive been told?

yea and some of the wires need made longer, if you can get an E7 ecu buy one that has been mapped and makes a big difference.

An E5/6 engine will fit straight in and E5/6 ecu plug straight in also.

My 8 was running 400hp thats why ideally I want to use my 8 ecu as it has my map on.im only putting it all in a 4 as I couldnt find a decent 8 rolling shell for decent money so ive had to settle for a 4 shell

you have the loom also from your 8?

You can still use your E8 ecu but you will have to get an ECU upgrade harness for the E4 to E8 and still need to change a couple of wires. These are available from America And Japan.

You could also sell your E8 ecu mapped for exchange with an E5/6 ecu and cash and map the E5/6 ecu.

Yeah ive still got my 8 engine loom and car loom as engine is still in the 8

Easier changing it all over mate but its very time consuming. You would have to sell the E8 as a sheel then. why are you not keeping the E8?

As it was stolen and theu smashed it up pretty bad so im just salvaging everything I can of it luckily enough all the engine,box etc are sweet.

The thugs and low life scum that do that... you have the transfer box, diff and gearbox to sell plus shockers etc. get a few £ back on them and then the interior, body panels.

Take the wiring loom out and remove the E4 loom and swap them over or order the E4 ecu converter to E8 from the states or japan. Personally i would do a loom change and your still have a few wires to alter and change earths in the engine bay.

As Phil says... Swap the loom over or just get a 5/6 ecu remapped on a ceedy rom

I take it the 8 ecu is a 3 plug? (a evo 8 260 ecu is a 4 plug and will plug straight into your existing loom)

For the hassle involved in swapping wiring looms I'd just go for a 5/6/7 or 8 260 ecu.

Evo 4 Oil return pipe different angle when fitted to sump easy fix use either evo 4 sump or 8 return pipe.... They can be made to fit wit a bit of force but a bastard .
