Evo 6 Overboost ???

hi,

have a completely standard EVO VI, have fitted a de cat with no problems, everything running fine.

then i fitted a mushroom air filter onto the original induction piping and MAF sensor.

no immediate problems until under heavy load. the over boost sensor kicks in at the top of the revs and cuts the boost,

the actuator is new for an EVO 8 so has the cap to stop water and rust etc.

so its not the actuator,

Why is it doing this? have had to put standard air box back on.

advice please.

hi mate did u disconect the battery before u did this??

if not then put the mushroom back on but first disconnect battery
leave forabout an hour them reconnect battery

this will reset your ecu so when connected back up it will read the new mushroom air flow so will sort the problem hopefully

Ok mate thanks for the advice, will give it a go. I did not disconect the battery.

Should I do the same when fitting a downpipe?

disconnecting the battery only resets the fuel trims (closed loop) and the problem here is in openloop.

if you want to run the induction kit then you must get it remapped! the induction kit has thrown out the way the maf reads airflow and is causing it to fuel cut (ecu reading map incorrectly)

the decat wont help matters but should be ok.

So keep the airbox on or get a remap :D

thanks for the info.

do you think if i fit a downpipe (with de cat still on) and original airbox it will be ok?

my plan is to do these things graduly (finance always the problem) and then have the car remapped once i have done all the things i want to do. but i dont want to cause the car any damage so is it better to purcahse the items but not fit them until all together, then fit and have remap done.

i am only talking about minor things like the downpipe, decat already on, induction kit, hardpipe intercooler kit and uprated intercooler con rod bolts upgrade, then have it remapped so looking at 340 / 350 Hp with increased boost and uprated fuel pump.

i am new to this though so any advice welcomed!

after doing any engine mods you should really get the fueling and det checked to be safe, but you should be fine with just downpipe/decat.....although monitor the boost as it will probably rise a little after a decat.

its the induction kits that really mess things up without a remap.

than actual performance enhancer. Drawing hot air from under bonnet.

I was suprised I had overboost which I guess shows more air
was actually flowing.

i got a hks mushroom, full 3"system turbo back with de-cat, 6 injectors and uprated fuel pump on my 4 runnin standard ecu and never needed 2 remap it and mine never cuts runs sweet as a nut

its not fuel cutting because it flowing more air! (its flowing the same as a airbox and good panel filter)

its fuel cutting because it alters the flow of air across the maf sensor (which the maf has not been scaled for)

in most cases when they are fitted and not mapped they will make the car slower as it will be running less ignition timing and richer fueling.

(the alterations caused by the induction will not really be noticable to drive, but doesn't mean its totaly safe!) only way to check it properly is to get someone to check it over once fitted)
