Evo 6, boost leak?

Correct me if I'm wrong if this thread is in the wrong location!

Recently acquired an 99' evo 6, and have had it for roughly 2 weeks now. (Fairly ignorant to evos jsyk). Just today I went to do a pull, as soon as I hit around 3k rpms it faintly stopped producing power then jumped to around 4200rpm. Is this a boost leak? Or a bigger issue? Reminder I'm fairly ignorant to these vehicles so please bare with me. Thanks.

Possibly not a boost leak would have powerloss symptoms all the way through the rev range, after 4200 rpm does it pull well?
Does it do it all the time? what fuel are you putting in it?

What do you mean by the revs jumped to 4200? Did the revs climb but the car didn't accelerate, because that could be the clutch slipping. Put the car in a high gear when you're not going very fast and put your foot down. If it does it again it could very well be the clutch
