Evo 5 Tyre Size?

Gotta set of Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1's - 245/40R18's for my Volk
Racing GT-C's. However only one set actually fit the front. They came with the car so don't ask

Anyways, The front tyres rub the inner plastic linings and have destroyed them pretty much. If I go down in tyre size, to 235's would I be okay? Just want a perfect fit! Thanks!

I had 235/40/18 R888's on my EVO 5 when I bought it. No rubbing at all and R888's are known to be quite a wide tyre.
These were on an 8x18 wheel though.
