Engine light came on today so checked faults and bought up code 21 coolant temp sensor, the 2 fans were running to when i got home

Fitted a new sensor, reset the ecu.Started car no light on and fans were off.
Went for a short spin for less than 5 mins and fans were on when got home and wouldn't cut out while engine running.went for another spin but fans still on.turned on and off car few times but when car is restarted they cut in straight away.no fans working with just ignition turned on

Temperture gauge reading normal.

Leave car cool down, start it and fans are off but after about a min fans cut in and stay on.

Also removed the wire off the coolant temp sensor while fans are running but they stay on.

Car ie an Evo 5

any ideas whats wrong?faulty switch?

Check the fan controller (black box next to the fan), it is most likely knackered.

Also check water temp sensor on the thermostat housing. Check resistance on it should be around 4k Ohms.

Yes that is the one, best way to check it to replace it with another and see if it makes a difference, which I believe it will.

Your are not wrong the 4/5/6 do not have a fan controller, I just did not see that you have an evo 5. Check the sensor and let me know.
