hey guys new here and new to evos so stick with me please!

i recently bought an evo 5 and within a few miles i got the dreaded knocking.. appears i may of bought a dog!

anyway, looking for some advice on where to go from here...

do i rebuild what ive got?

or

replace with a second engine with warranty etc..

long term not looking for massive gains (probably just stage one) and would like reliability

and ideas on cost of forging would be great and just wanted some expert opinions please, cheers guys

First make sure it's the engine could be transmission related?
Another engine is about a grand or more if you rebuild/forge your old one
Can you not go back to the seller ,poor if it's only done a few miles!

If it is the engine.....

Go for a 7/8 engine or 7/8/9 bottom ends. They are stronger than the 5/6 engine.

Or a cheaper option (sort of) buy a 6 engine and rod job it while it's out the car.

Rebuilding your own will be the most expensive option if you start to uprated parts. But you at least have the peace of mind that it's all been done properly etc etc

I think if it was myself/my plan...... I would source a solid 8 engine from a reputable dealer.

guy who I bought the car off isn't co-operating so legal proceedings are in process ergh.
literally covered 10 miles before this mess!
anyway,
thanks for the advice guys, its defo engine (little end not big)?

I have found an evo specialist near me called auto-torque.net who has an evo 6 engine from a 50,000 mile car for sale and im thinking of straight swapping for that unit.
only thing is knowing these cars history and how thrashed each engine is!
Would like the peace coming from a rebuild but just don't know about costs yet.. does any company stock a complete rebuild kit? thanks again guys

So is it rattling like mad or knocking?

Are you sure it's definitely knocking/rattling.

Do you know about the lash adjusters in the head? They can constantly tick away if standard ones are still in there.

Sorry if you already know all that it just needs asking.
