Evo 4 - 5 wanted - info needed please

Hi all im new to the forum so ill start off saying hello to everyone, Im currently trying to find a evo 4/5 with a budget of around 3.5k - 4k. Just wondering if anyone has imported one from japan and if so is it pretty straght forward to sort out and where is the best auction site to import one from? also is there any common faults to look out for when buying one. Hi M8,

I imported a few imprezas a while back and to be honest i found it more hassle than its worth and more expensive. Yes you could have got a clean car from japan years ago but even the ones in japan are showing their age. You can get just as good in the uk if you keep an eye out on forums etc.

Ok then cheers. Whats the main differences between the evo 4 and 5 and would i be better off holding out and save some more penny's and get a 5 or is the 4 just as good. What would be the main things to look for when im going to view a 4. There is a grey one ive noticed on ebay which ive aranged to go and view tommorow. Many thanks for the reply's

Im no expert mate but when i was looking for an evo i looked at the same options.
The 5 will take more power and has a stronger engine remappable ecu etc. Personally i prefer the look of the 5 so i thought id go for a 5, but then i looked at the difference between the 5 and 6 and found the 6 was better in some other ways for slightly more money, so ended up going for a 6

Just watch for the AYC light when you switch ignition on i got caught out with mine and have to sort it. Some tw*t had taken the bulb out :disgusted:

One other thing these cars are money pits i have spent a fortune on mine in the year ive had it and havent even got round to tuning yet.

Either way you will love it but be prepared to have your wages paid directly to your evo :whistling:

To the OP.
My advise is to get the best car you can find in your budget. Be it a 4 or a 5.

Good advice on the AYC.
Make sure it comes on and goes off when the ignition is turned on (without starting the engine). I've heard of folks linking the bulb to the oil light so it comes on and goes off when the car is started.

Check for excessive rust at the back of the car on the underside too. Seems to be quite a common issue nowadays.

from what i found when looking for an Evo 5,any that are up for around 3.5-4k are cheap,and cheap normally means one thing-trouble,id save up abit more and buy the best car for your money,not the cheapest one you can find as it will more than likely cost you more in the long run.
