Evo 5/6 buying advice

Hi guys new to forum so hi. Thinking about an evo 5/6 and just had a few questions. Just wanted to know how reliable these cars actually are what kind of mpg should I expect and I'm sorry I have to ask do they give u kick in the seat when their pulling. Was going to buy a wrx sti type r and was put of by a few people telling there dangerous tools in the wet. And it's always wet here. Thanx guys and sorry for the boy racer questions.

Stay away from the imprezas mate had 7 of them did 3 head gaskets numerous clutches and gearboxes, evo is a million miles better and 100% more reliable.
They are expensive to keep and maintain but worth every penny. I get 160 miles from a full tank (Thats driving 80% sensibly).

Since she has a turbo and awd of course she pins you to the seat

I have had wrx and sti in the past and they do handle better than an evo but i like the evo better for performance and you can tune them a lot further than any subaru. Evo 5/6 is good purchase and you can your imports cheap there directly from Japan in Dublin Docks and the same in Cork. You are better with an evo import and you can chose the evo you want to order to your spec. You should get 20+ mpg driving sensibly from an evo and go test drive one and then fall in love with it

E6 TME or E6 RS and they hold their price very well and very desired!

What kind of money are talking about for importing one?? Wouldn't have a clue about that plus the fact I'm all out of Japanese friends? Seen a few here not a lot going anything between 5000 to 7000

Naw mate subaru handles better but evo more powerful and can tune them way up. If you import a 5 rs or 6 rs you would pay between £3000-£4500 but the tme edition you will have problems to get as they are very sought after. In the uk you will pay between £4500-£7000 for these models and a tme you will up to £12000. Get yourself autotrader and look mate or there is a guy in magherafelt co.derry called kenny wylie who will get you what you want as he sells them as does a guy kieran graffin in toomebridge, loughbeg road, co.antrim.

No worries mate but when your on the internet google dublin jap imports and have a look, you can also buy direct from japan and give a sales rep commission for your purchase but mind you have to pay to ship it also and can take up to 4 -5 weeks to de delivered but they are tuned over there a lot

You must love under steer if you think subarus are better handling cars than evo's

If you push an evo u get more from it

If you push a Subaru you get more under steer !

Naw both i have both of them and subaru handles better standard on a country road than an evo. The sti i had handled a lot better than my E6 gsr and that was proved.

Totally agree! My old WRX RA was an under steer monster, as you say the harder I pushed the more understeer I got. The only way I could stop it was to lift off mid corner!

I test drove a IV round a country lane, and could only think it felt far more nimble, turn in much better and the feeling of more grip. I know the AYC got involved as it made the most awful noise on the tight bits hence why I didn't buy it :razz:

Phil74: not disagreeing with you, you obviously have a good experience with both but in what way do you feel the Subaru handles better? I have heard that people think the evos feel a bit skittish on long sweeping bends?

from having wrx and sti and also e4 5 6 & 8 i had an sti at the same time i bought an E6. We had a class c road we use as it has a lot of bends, twists and crests so it lets people see what cars handles better and who can drive the car. I agree the the subaru can have a little understeer due to engine being positioned wrong with over hang on the front wheels but it does handle a lot better on narrow roads with a lot of twists, bends and crests compared the E6 i had. The sti has raw power and lower gravity due to the positioning of the engine and yes you do get a little understeer but on timing both my cars the sti and my E6 on this road several times with me driving and also others driving both my cars the sti was faster over 3.4 mile of road on average 2 seconds compared to the E6. I will conclude whoever the Evo does feel a lot more responsive, able to be gave more power and on the majority of roads without very many twists, shape corners and crests will wipe the floor with an sti. The Evo is a lot more reliable, more power, easy to tune and of course a lot better with cosmetic looks than any subaru. Evos are only little skittish on long sweeping bends when so much power/torque is delivered beyond factory standards and using standard suspension which is a great set up and with ohlins or similar uprated coilovers can be over come but with both cars the sti and E6 as standard the sti did handle a lot better than E6 on this country road. I have had my far share of problems with the subarus i did own and omg what a very unreliable car.

That road sounds immense! You have far more experience than me on that shout lol.

I wouldn't have another Subaru, spent a lot of money on mine after the engine let go two weeks into ownership.

To the Op as has been said go for the cleanest example you can afford. For me the choice is in the form of a black V with the Rs fog light covers, picking it up a week today :awesome:

Your welcome mate and out of all the evos i have owned i love the E5 the best as these are the legend that started it all off for ralliart the basis for the E6 E6 RS and E6 TME which will always be a legend. If its not a cheeky question what are you paying for your E5? I have a black E5 and Red E6 at the minute. My avator is my E5 engine but getting tweaked again this week
lol i went through 4 engines in my wrx in a year and i would never have another subaru again either

rust on evos are a huge problems maintenance on older cars is sky high these days probs after probs. may be lucky to buy a super low mileage model but expect to pay alot for a 12 -14 year old evo 5,6 .mine was so reliable when she was a few years old no probs at all even when i wrote it of the engine was trouble free

agree with EVO4TOMB,never owned impreza but drove my brothers one several times and compared to my e8, have to say far better handling all day long. have loads more fun in evo

Everyone has the their opinion but its been proven and driving down a main road or a 1/2 mile circuit does not compare handling. We all tested both my cars the sti and E6 i had at the same and the sti was faster on that road.
