Evo 5 360bhp NEXT STEPS ????

Got an Evo 5 had it few months, new larger exedy clutch and flywheel new Evo 6 engine turbo, walbro fuel pump straight through exhaust down pipe, larger intercooler! Car is mapped about 1.3bar if I'm correct and it's about 360bhp don't quote me not been on rollers yet! Thing is I love it but get bored easily and it's always needing the odd thing here and there as it's 18 years old! I want to know what's the next steps to make more power without big doe on forge bottom ends an strokers? I don't wana kill the car as the bottom end went on the 5 lump hence the 6 swap! Would a bigger turbo manifold ect give me enough power for the money or is engine on its limits at 360bhp? Cheers :shock:

1.3 bar won't be making 360bhp???

Mine made 365 at 1.6 bar.

Get it mapped properly by someone in the know and it will be fine for a true 360-380.

Once you go higher then it's forging time :twisted:

It's 1.5 peaking at 1.6, I think my my 4 was 1.3 bar! It's been mapped by some1 in the know how don't worry! He's got a wooden leg

Ahh makes more sense.

You could push more through the turbo, but it's a risk of either the turbo or the rods

Mines run 1.7-1.8 bar for some time and was fine, had it mapped buy Simon@NTS to max out at 1.7 bar now and goes like stink.

Best bet if you don't go forging is suspension and tyres

Ye si has looked after a few of my cars, this 1s already sat on yokes an shocks! I just wanted to know if there was good gains from a turbo upgrade or if it's not really worth the money for the small gains! Everybody goes rod job or stroker in the end, just seeing if a bigger turbo/map could have pushed me on 400! Don't want the car on its limits as I feel it is anyway!!

Yeah that's the trouble, 400 will be the limit.

Some have done it and been fine, but eventually no matter how strong it is, it will fail.

Maybe swap the engine out for a later one? You'll get good money for yours. The later engines can handle a bit more power, it the route I've thought of to be honest.

Although after a ride in a NA mr2 at the last trackday power isn't the route I'm too fussed about now
