Evo 4 Urgent Help Needed

Hello, on startup, after I had finished work this afternoon my car started making a rattling sound past 2000 revs. Am I right in thinking small end or big end has gone? It sounds like its on either cylinder 1 or 2. Is it expensive to do or am I going to have to start thinking of breaking it?

Urgent help needed please.

possibly the dreaded crank walk do a search on here and you tube as some vids of noise of engines when they have it so you can compare unhappy dayz

ill try to do a vid myself to show what happens. Few ideas i need to look into from searching but still nothing over 50% sure.

Rattling above 2k I would say bottom end and same as above poss crank walk, basically don't keep starting the car to hear the fault and do not drive! Get its stripped from the bottom and check for swarf. Rebuild or replace, will be cheaper to pick up replacement, unless you want the challenge and a build, and a word of advice, replace the oil cookery too if its bottom end DO NOT REUSE the old one.

Please excuse my stupidity but what's swarf and what do you mean by cookery?

Metal bits and cooked oil mate

Ok small update; Took off the rocker cover and checked for a shot spring or valve, nothing. Took the sump off, no burnt oil or metal bits running around. Started taking the bottoms of the rods off to look at the bearings and number 2 hardly any metal there. There are minor scratches in the crank but have measured all angles and seems ok.

So i called indigo-gt, they are sending some new bearings over for first thing tomorrow and hopefully ill have her back on the road!

One question though. Why would the bearings go on just one rod? The others are worn ok and as normal. Ive checked oil feeds for blockages but nothing.

Hi well done for getting ya hands dirty get a dail gauge and check for crank walk, if no dail gauge get someone too press clutch and look for movement in and out on the crank while they press it esp watch the crankpully for a visual pointer

Deffo check the crank buddy if there minor scratches could go again. Fair play for doin it yourself buddy.

Oil starvation could be the cause to the number 2 you caught it before it spread. I caught mine in time had the crank miked up and wasn't worn so re used and replaced bearings.
