Hi guys,

I have had my evo 4 for a few months and now think its time to start getting it faster. At the moment, she is totally standard apart from a dump valve.

Where do i start, what's the quickest way to start boosting this baby??

It is my first turbo'd car, I have had vectra sri's, m-sport bm's etc but never turbo.

Is it easy to turn the boost up on the turbo??

Sorry for the questions but im new to this.

EDIT: I have read about decat pipes, do these actually work?? I know it removes the cat and therefore wont pass an mot but do they improve power?? What about a mechanical boost controller?

Regards

well bud for a start get yourself a evo 5/6 ecu and injectors as you cant re map the standard 4 ecu once you have got that also get yourself a walbro 255 fuel pump!
and get yourself a remap also you can get a manual or electric boost controller it all depends on your budget really and u can get all of what u need right on this site:)
and a nice induction kit for some nice cold air:);)

yea that just about says it all really.

dont expect to much i power gains though cos the VI engine isnt very strong but most people go for around 1:20 bar of boost and yea you should feel a difference and once re mapped the engine should run sweet as a nut :):)

Sounds great, How much will all this cost roughly (excluding the electronic boost controller)?

all these mods will not cost you that much get a price from eldopesta or jamie@evotune
they will give u an exact price but it will be less that £500 any way it will all depend on what kind of remap u get if its a custom or ecu tek, ecu teks are about £500 itself i was £180 for my custom map at wallace performance.
u may also need to upgrade your standard actuator as the ones standard with the 4 let water in and it damages the diaphram inside which causes u to lose boost (not hold boost) might be an idea to get that first. your best plan is to get all the parts you need to upgrade and then go for the re-map as if u do a we bit get the map done then add more bits u will need to go get your map checked and a possibe tweak so best get mods fit everything then go for map that make sense bud?:);)

if buying a second had ecu which you will need cos you standard one isnt re mapable the look for one that already has an ecutech liscence cos the are around £200 so wiil save you money on buying that after you bought your ecu.

or just buy a standard 5/6 ecu then contact one of the geekmappers on here :)

First thing would be before you spend any money modding is get a pressure/leak down test done to make sure your engine is good.

Stage 1 mods + remap you should see about 360bhp (depends how good your engine is)

3'' turbo back exhaust
Filter (panel or K&N)
Evo 5/6 or 7 ecu
560cc injectors
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Boost controller

Lee mate you've done it again  He's got a 4 engine not a 6 :whistling:

But as said, shop around for parts.
5/6 ecu £50-£100
560 injectors £50-£70
3" Decat £40-£60
255 Walbro fuel pump £65-£70

Geekmap
Pricless :p

I've got all the above bar remap running about 1.1 bar. Car made 285bhp 292 torque's. Even with out the map you can really tell the different! Goes really well. Well worth the money.:)

yes it will need to be set by an expert before you can drive the car normally and the second its fitted to the car.

what do the geeks think of these ??

i know you dont get the safty features like knock control etc that you get with a factory ecu !!

In terms of performance, if i do the above mods (evo 5 ecu, injectors, remap, decat pipe, induction kit, 255 fuel pump) what should i expect to achieve? 0 - 60 etc?? What is the fuel consumption like also with these mods? and will it still pass a mot (providing i replace the cat prior to mot)

You forgot the 3-port solenoid. ;)

@ cowen1000, with a remapped 5/6 ECU, 560cc injectors, 3" de-cat & exhaust, 255 walbro, 3-port boost solenoid and abour 1.4 bar peak, holding 1.3 bar, you should be around 330 - 340 BHP I would imagine.

Up from the stock 280 BHP. Also, if you fit a 5/6 ECU and injectors the car will just run fine, no need to get it remapped instantly, as long as the ECU and injectors are fitted at the same time.

Fuel consumption, I have had 250 miles to a tank, but the needle was really low, mainly back road driving to work, with a bit of city driving and very little dual carrage ways. Yes, it will still pass the MOT as long as the cat is fitted and working.

im looking at doing these mods to my evo iv (when i get round to it)
i got the 560cc injectors and induction kit but not sure what size decat i need
2.5 or 3 inch will have to have a measure and have a look apart for the fuel pump and ecu and boost valve is there anything else ..
