Does the gear stick actually move in to the selected gear direction and stay there,in neutral does it looks like it's sitting where it should, does it grind

It's sits like it should do you hear the gear box go into that gear
Just when lifting the clutch it's as if there is no clutch at all

if I had those symtems on any car I'd be checking clutch cable, cylinders or clutch it's self. If the gearbox feels right when engine is on or off with no grinding I very much doubt it's anything else. Hope this helps pal

Check the link on top of the gear box (from under the bonnet) I had the same problem and it turned out to be the link cradle broke

I had the same problem! i've changed a few clutches now in on the Evo's but this time no gears. After 3 times the box coming out and me looking at it and speaking to a few specialists they said it was strange after checking all the basic stuff and not finding the fault. So anyway i decided to fit a new paddle clutch and it made no difference till the clutch fork arm snapped and looking at It, It had stress points and must have been flexing hence why i couldn't engage gears.

Any way all fixed now and driving. That was one random fault that i have never seen.

Hope you get it fixed.

I'd also be looking at this !
The bracket that holds the cables to the box has rubber bushes and are prone to braking off. Just weld them up :)
