Its gonnal be a little hard for you to read the numbers now pal. Did the place that done the work give you the new engines number on the receipt?

majority of times, import cars engine numbers are not registered on any data bases. What did they do with your old engine anways pal?

No other information on the receipt?

I think he is legit because from what he has put on the receipt, he really aint arsed with messing around.

Get him to back you some back ground info on the engine. Its something that ya shoulda done before you wnet for the job off him but hey, you probably won still! Ring him and ask what evo the engine is out of and then check what letter the numbers start with to see if he is telling you the truth or a bunch of porkies.

your engine no. is located just under your exhaust manifold (left hand side)
but like dave said you might have trouble finding them now it in.
if you find them list them up here and i should be able to tell what the engine is from...
a vi engine code should start with one of these.
aa, ab, ac, al, an, ao, ap, aq, yn, yr, ys, yt, yx, yy.

Thanks Guys - I'll see what I can found out - I wont be happy if the guys has just put another 4 engine in there even when I asked him questions about the oil cooler pipes fitting up, as the 4 pipes don't fit the 6 engine John from evo breakers was saying - We I asked the guy this - his reply to me was 'olle don't worry your evo will be fine, you don't have to worry, leave it to us, as we have been is business for 30 years. The gearbox is lovely I must say!!

Cheers again everyone!!

I would not be surprised if it is still a IV engine Ollie because he would have listed it in the receipt. That said, I hope I am wrong.

I would have listed that for sure as it adds value to the car when it comes to selling it on.

If these guys have been in the game for as long as he claims then they probably are not bothered with that sort of thing as pointed out by Dave.

As long as the engine is in, it has warranty and you are driving it around, I don't think you should be worrying about it.

El,

Just a quick one mate - On my invoice at the bottom, there is an advice note that says:
A 500 mile serice is carried out by a reputable garage and must include:
1. oil and filter change.
2. re-torquing of cylinder head and manifolds where possible.
3. checking or resetting, if necessary, valve clearances.
4. adjustment of ignition timing
5. adjustment of carburettor settings and/or CO readings.

C. thereafter regular servicing to manufacturer's specifications every 3000 miles for the duration of the 3 month warranty.

Does it really need this service after 500 miles and if it does - Will it be costly???

Cheers

That is the case sometimes if it is a reconditioned engine.

I am surprised that he did not inform you of this at the time he made the deal with you:confused:

There is no need to fret buddy. The engine is under warranty and those are his terms and conditions to uphold it.

Simply call him tomorrow and book it in with him to carry out the inspection and necessary adjustments which he should be doing within the money he has charged you.

Book it for a time that you know the mileage will have reached 500 and not a mile more as you will have nullified the warranty if that occurs.

How many miles have you done now and how far is his place from you???

Looks like you will be going on a road trip matey!!

It will not be an expensive task to carry out the inspection/adjustments but it should be something that he has factored into the price. I would have and I am sure that Jamie or John, or any reputable outfit for that matter, would have factored into the total costs too.

This is very important and something you should stay on top of, especially the oil change.

Also El,

That Garage that I had the work done by is just outside of Manchester. So i'll check with him if he is intending to do it - If not do you know anyone else near my neck of the woods that would do it as he does say 'a 500 mile service is carried out by a reputable garage and must inclucde: ...........

If he has put a re con 4 engine in there, he is going to be in some seroius trouble, coz I even emailed him when John meantion about the evo 4 oil cooler pipes not linking up propertly and his reply to that was 'Don't worry Ollie, everyting with your evo will be fine, as we have been in business for 30 years, you wont have to worry about a thing'.

Cheers El,

Ollie

If his reply came by way of an email response then you are kind of covered if he has put a IV engine back into the car.

I can do the work for you if you want to make a trip over to Birmingham. You could even meet Quakes, Mr Lancer as well as Dave Brennun and a few other local members if they don't feel too shy!

That is if you want to come over???

Basically if the engine number starts with a T its a 4 engine.
